engines you've got respect for

Postby :madaz: » Thu Mar 23, 2006 10:56 am

i thought i'd post up a topic on engines you've WITNESSED withstand some insane abuse!!

ive posted a few options in the poll bar but obviously missed out heaps so just state the engine u respect in your post!

It would be good to hear a short story on the engines survival effort!!

The engine i have the most respect for is the nissan Z18. We had a written off 1 we decided to put on the limiter 1 day at the dump and it sat there for 3 mins on the limiter, still sweet as, no knocking or rattling!! So we took of the radiator hose to speed up the process, only to be on the limiter for another 4-5 mins with no problems!! HOLY FEK!! This thing ran on the limiter better than it ran on idle!! No smoke the whole time!! in the end the local bus company(next door) complained to the police so we had to stop!! the Z18 is still in running. respect to that engine
speed on brother

If you are asking people what sort of engines they've got respect for I'm not exactly sure why you used only Japanese engines in your poll.

The best engines out there which will get the most respect are mostly from Europe...

couldn't vote 4age as that would be bias, byt i know of an SR20DE that has done over 300000kms without blowing a headgasket!!!!!!!!!!! still goes alright to especially considering a nissan would normally have gone through 10 gaskets and two cylinder heads by then. and i know of another one that lives on the rev limiter and was run for a few days with the shims out of it.

hahaha Z18 is the bomb, our old rivercar withstood large amounts of abuse....... !

4age has got to be a tough little bitch.

My SR20 has held up so far.. not that i beat it much, and i change its oil like every 5000 anyway. i think with regular oil changes, pretty reliable, but if you dont change it then the oil galleries will get blocked and it will die

im sure the 4K is ever reliable.. like a 2E, but f*ck theyd have to be, what else are they good for, slow as sh*t!! (same again with 3A.. reliable, but just so uninspiring..)

I'd say the 16V 4AGE's are pretty damn tough.

The SR20's are pretty good, but you gotta give them regular servicing, oil and filter.

I'd say the 3S is a tough cookie as well. I've given mine a fair bit of punishment and it runs like the day I got it with 130K. Now has almost 200K.

I'd also say the FJ20 is a tough one (even though its not in the polls). I'd say its a lot tougher than most in the polls.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

K series engines.

Simple, unsophisticated, invincible. 8)

And I've heard a lot of good things about FJ20's too. 8)

NA 3S's dont have the best reputation IMO, they seem to be hit and miss.
Might be due to lack of maintenance however.
But part of having a good reputation, is being able to take abuse.
