bluetop TVIS heater/water pipes

Postby z|gen » Thu Mar 23, 2006 5:26 pm

hey guys,
im about ready to drop my engine into my car, but i dont have a heater anymore,
so is it possible to remove the heater pipes off the engine and all other hoses which arent needed? the only cooling will be via the radiator..

cheers

Dont know if there would be any effect in removing it totally.

In the KE25 the all the pipes etc that run along the left handside of the block under the TVIS are still there (no heater box etc in cabin) and still function, in that the water still flows from the block through one rail and back via the second rail, the T section at the rear (by the firewall) has just been crimped on one side to seal it off (see the pic below, not the best but should help)

Actually I think you could run in to over heating problems if you removed it totally

 I just realised my bluetop is out (removed last weekend) and will have the bottom end off it this weekend, so all the pipes etc aren't in the engine bay

if I were you I would be keeping all the piping attached to the block and the hoses that connect to the TVIS and remove the hose(s) that head off through the firewall. I would say you have a copper T section like what I have in the above pic, just crimp that to seal it and it will close the loop for ya

hmm yeah.

i think i might just get the engine in as it is..then fill with water and block off hoses and see if the engine still works fine..

I dont think there would be any drastic effect in removing the piping after that T section, however in saying that I am basing that on the fact that the KE does also have an electric fan on the radiator as well, some I have seen dont and I can see this being an issue when in heavy traffic or crawling through town etc.
