Celica GT-R wont start

Postby agrath » Sat Mar 25, 2006 12:45 pm

Hey All.
Been a while since i've posted here but my brother is having a problem with his GT-R celica. It's a non turbo, 2L 16v. 3SGE.

The story..
Noob was driving and got really low on gas. Stopped and put some gas in it, started it up and continued on his way.
Headed down the motorway, got to the end and stopped in traffic and car started running rough, spluttering like it was running out of gas but there was still plenty in the tank according to the gauge. Then it died completely. Have been unable to start it since.

He took plugs out and they looked rooted so he's changed them, its got plenty of gas now, plenty of power.
Turns over but doesnt fire.
Thinking fuel supply problem but he reckons the pump is running fine, he says he's heard it run though.
He also says he's taken off the fuel line, (if you are looking at it from the radiator it is on the right hand side) and nothing comes out when he turns it over.. I dont know if this is the feed or the return cos i'm a noob too.

Anyone got any suggestions/want to come look at it?
Car is in Glendene/Henderson, Auckland.

Does it have a fuel filter? If it does, I know that when my dads van got run low on fuel the fuel filters cardboard got ripped to pieces and filled the fuel lines. He had to clean the fuel lines of all the cardboard befor it would start.

Yeah, a couple of cars Ive owned didnt have filters, mostly its european cars that aren't fitted with them.

Im not too sure about Celicas but if there is a filter its probably mounted on the firewall. More than likely black. Its hard to explain the shape though, Cylindrical I guess. On my last two toyotas it was mounted on the right hand side of the firewall when looking at the front of the vehicle.

ok filter i think is a cylinder that is on the passengers side of the engine bay.
It appears to have a hose coming out of the top of it. It goes into the top of the engine and when you pull it off is dry as a bone,
There is another hose that goes into the back of the engine under what i think is the injectors and its a bit wet, like its had fuel but it goes straight down and under the car, i think back to the tank.
Neither hose produces fuel when you crank it and put them in a jar.
There is a big hose that appears to go into the bottom of the filter but I cannot tell if it actually goes into the filter or through into the wheel arch (maybe brake line)
We took the back seat out and the panel off where the fuel pump is and cranked the bolt on the top of it with a socket set. fuel immediately started running down the side of where the bolt was. we didnt undo it any more than this, just did it back up
