ae111 pre facelift spotlights wiring

I have a 95 levin bzv which has no factory spotlights, iam in the process of putting some in.I have found a plug for each of the spotlights when i removed the 'blank' panels.

I have tried a circut tester at the spotlight plugs with park/hi/low beam on with no result. I have also tried the circuit tester at the fuse box on the fuse named 'fog' it showed a positive result when the parklights were on.

do the cars fitted with factory lights have a switch of some sort? or do the lights automaticly come on with the park lights?

does this ciruit need a switch or is there a way to hard wire to the park lights using the the existing spotlight wiring i have?

any advice/input appreciated

assuming it is the same as all other cars i know that have a spotlight option available but don't have them ther will be a switch. look on your dashboard there may be a blank switch. This should have the wiring plugged into the back of it.

I took my fog lights out of my pre facelift '96 and replaced them with some shitty Supercheap halogens for the meantime, everything should be fine so long as you have the wires there, surely - unless you need to add a fuse or something....

They should come on with the first setting - before the headlights come on.

You mentioned a circuit tester? Do you mean continuity of a circuit? I would have thought you'd test for voltage...

yeap, there is a switch, mine BZG has a spotlight/fog light, it is on the indicator stick where u turn on the headlight... it is the inner part where u can rotate it to turn on or off, the outer one rotate to turn on the park light then the headlight... if u want a pic i can try to put it on here...

Rolla- There are blank switch panels on the dash but with nothing behind them.

truenobzg- The cicut tester i used is pen like, with a sharp tip and an earth wire, it lights up when a circuit is made.

xavier- thats the switch i thought there might be, maybe the missing link in the curcuit.

so maybe what the cicuit needs is a switch wired in? where is the best/factory place to wire it in at?

also remember, if its obvious they have been added, or in the case of different ones put in, you need to follow the wof regulations as if they are aftermarket

there will probably be wiring in the car, u will need to find the plug for the spotlights in the cabin, u may wana find a spotlight light switch what ever style it is, ever individaul switch or on the headlight idicator stick. then also check the fuse make sure that metal on both sides fuse as u may need the mod the fuse box.

yea iv found the wiring to the lights but nothing else at this stage. Iv had a bit of a look around the cabin but cant seem to see any loose wires floating around under the dash.

I have a toggle switch that i want to use rather than the hassle and expense of a factory one.I just need to know where to wire it in.

I have checked the 'fog' fuse and it is fine.what would i have to mod on the fuse box?

Yeah my prefacelift AE111 had the spotlight plugs behind the blank panels too, As far as im aware the switch needed to turn them on should be on the headlight switch stalk, mine is missing the spotlight on option, seems dumb to have the plugs but no switch huh?

I wonder if you got a new stalk with the spotlight switch it would be a straight swap and the lights would then work?

To be honnest, that could be the best way to go for wof, as although they may not, they also may ping you on the setup not being standard (with a seperate, non factory rocker switch) and then you would have to rewire to suit regulations.

Yeah it probably is, but i would rather avoid the cost of a replacement stalk as a wrecker will most likely want a heap for it and then theres no guarentees the lights will work once its installed.But yes posible wof issues if wired otherwise.hmm.
