An alloy head should always be skimmed once its untorqued from the block.

well there wouldnt be any advantage unless more reliability itd just change your compression ratio. and yes you shd have you head and block shimmed so there is a perfect flat surface for the head gasket to seal on as metal head gaskets dont flex a bit to take up the discrematies in the sealing surfaces

do some research its almost everyware 8)

you will need to get a special grind done on the block, a very fine one compared to the normal grind they usually do.
If the head hasnt been over heated it shoudl be find to use it as it is, just get out the scraper and clean it up mint.
also you wana use that headgasket copper spray before putting the head gasket on.

and advantages are raised compression, and higher resistance to blowen head gaskets

IF the right mods are made to take advantage of it
also can be reused if in good condition, but for the price ou may as well buy another

Would it be absolutely neccessary to spray the gasket with coppercoat?
As i am going to use one on my engine.

I didn't spray mine, the compression is up a bit and haven't had any problems and I only use the car for racing so its gets a pretty hard time.
See ya
