Panel Beating ideas

Postby Zyros » Sat Apr 01, 2006 5:33 pm

Okay, i looked at this Levin today..
I own a toyota FXGT, so that could help for some parts etc ..

Ae101, 1991 Levin 20 V..

Now, There is one massive concern.. it has a huge dent after the door on it.
This dent has being crippled etc.. Imagine screwing up a piece of paper, then folding it back out.. Thats what the dent looks like..

The pannel for it leads all the way up to the roof etc etc so isnt as easy as replacing..

How would i go about fixing that? If i bog and get it repainted then it would have to be color coded to match the whole car and its almost half the car getting painted.. Cant pop the dent, is there a special way the professionals do it?

Anyone got a rough estimate on the price aswell.. the dent as described is about 25 z 25 cm,

If its stretched the metal just tackle it with a proper (but cheap) set of panel dollys (or make your own). You will want to take out the interior pannels and possible rear 1/4 window to get at properly. Smooth it out as much as possible, so you only need a skim of filler- Ive seen thick chunks of filler fall off or crack before. Make sure you key it good before filling also. Then prep, prime and, as you say, paint match and blend in.
If it is like a screwed up piece of paper, you wont be able to repair without painting.
If its just a smooth dent, lots of mobile dent businesses may be able to help.
Why cant you pop it?
Cant believe im still a member here.

Cause it aint one smooth dent.
Its creased and pushes right in at different sizes if you get me? Its creased etc.. How much would it cost to get that whole part paint matched?

Have you tried popping it?

You need some panel beating tools (A dolly and a hammer), then massage it out.
