boost controllers

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:24 pm

are electronc boost controllers worth the extra money than a manual boost controller?

i am wanting two boost settings (wet and dry) so trying to work out which will work best for this.

thanks

i Love my AVCR ( Electric Boost controller ) so many functions, for an eg.

If at high revs say 4-7rpm your boost allways dies off you can edit the timing of the soliniod to work faster / slower to allow it to compensate. there for you run a smooth full boost right to redline.

Or, you can set boost by gear so at the drags ( in a fwd say ) you can launch on 6psi ( LOW BOOST ) and without faffing around with anything it automatically runs High ( 5 bar :P or what ever ) for the other gears etc.

After using both Manual and Electric boost controllers i highly reccomend and love using Electric, not perfect and frustrating to tune for the first time due to setting desired boost and setting desired soliniod % to match it, so be aware of overboosting etc while tuning.

and dont forget, if you get one of the ones twisted sells it allows you to adjust "lag" via the solenoid..

basically you can prevent all pressure getting to the waste gate until a certain boost level is reached, (causing full boost to hit sooner, no wastegate creep) or you can get it to gradually let more and more pressure through to your wastegate meaning it takes longer to hit full boost...

iirc anyway, you would need to ask twsted for a better explanation.

used to run a manual "bleed tap" on the supra, went to a electronic blitz twin solenoid setup, and never looked back. boost is so much more stable, fluctuates about .03-.07bar through all types of temperature and weather, boost peak recall, and 4 different boost settings, plus overboost warnings, etc.
