Hot Earth systems

Have heard various things about hot earth systems, what i've been told is they work really well in Fords/Holdens because they have shit earthing systems in them from factory, so adding in a propper one develops an extra ~20hp. So i was thinking, 20 cheap easy Hp can never be a bad thng. Problem being would it be at all effective on my supra, as i'm failrly sure japanesse cars have good earthing system in them standard, but 20 years ago, did they?

Hot earth system is running a thick (8 gauge) wire from body - battery - alternator, and alternator - head. Supposidly cuts out electrical interferance.

You will NOT get 20hp out of extra earth wires, unless righ now you earth cables are completely corroded and car starts/runs like crap or does not run at all. Earth kits are almost like fuel magnets, another useless accessory (over priced I might add).
If you have earth problems, dont buy kits, just buy good 1 or 2 guage wire and appropriate connectors and connect engine to chassis, battery to chassis and battery to engine.

That was the plan ^_^.

Was just wondering if its worth me going out and buying some wire, and those loop things (for bolting down the wire) soldering them up and sticking it in?

I priced up making an earth kit at JA Russel using our trade discount and it worked out being $8 more expensive to buy a premade earth kit of tardme ($35), which incidentally used the same size wire and decent terminals. I just paid the money and didn't have to go through the hassel of making them up. The lengths were pretty much on the money and you visually can only see the ends of mine as the rest is hidden.

I guess it doesn't matter if you make or buy a kit, just make sure they use decent terminals as I've seen a few on imports and they're dodgy to say the least.

I made mine for about $15 using cable from dick smith and some uitlux crimp lugs, Its nice and stealth, earths just about everything possilbe and sorted by dodgy idle problem

As a couple have said - they aren't a miracle cure, but they do actually have noticable results in some cars.

Has smoothed the idle in all of my cars, also seems to help ignition slightly - no more missing when cold etc, which used to be a problem.

Also gives a very noticable gain on the TT legacies, smooths out the turbo transition in a BIG way.
