Quick question- Does the price of LPG go up when petrol/diesel goes up?

The same amount?

i think you will find NO, as LPG isnt produced from the same stuff considering its a GAS.

Actually, historically the answer has been YES. The prices of all automotive fuels have been linked together.
You could accuse the producers of LPG of profiteering in these latest petrol cost increases if they do raise their prices by the same percentage.
But no doubt they'll have prepared a justification - i.e. fall in NZ $ means technology to extract gas is dearer - that sort of thing.

Actually one of the production methods of LPG is from the refining process of Crude Oil. Think about what the P stands for :wink:

As for the original question, No idea.....can't say I bother watching petrol prices, let alone the gas price.

Nup, LPG doesnt go up with the petrol as much.

The last time it went up at the pumps was start of last winter, and that was only a few cents.

It is gearing up for a jump up though I have heard, it will be in the 10's of cents when it does jump.

I work at Caltex :oops: Our petrol prices go up and down a fair bit but the LPG stays the same. Get heaps of taxi drivers coming in asking that.

also, lpg is refined in nz:

issue is, unless you source a wreck with the parts, or do huge mileage, its not worth considering to convert anyway imo. Although there are wrecks floating around which I look at now and then.

woah, wicked. i was allways under the impression it had nothing to do with Petrol / oil.

The LPG system is a bit overpriced and primitive (similar to carb)...

but set up well it does the job...I mean the internal combust engine is also primitive...
but yes, expensive to set up.

I have an idea, as vapour pressure of butane is lower (at 20'C) than normal operating pressure of fuel injected car, why not make a bypas system to swap petrol for LPG and maybe bump up fuel pressure (say twice) to compensate for fuel density while rinnuing LPG...

Kinda funny that Liquid Petroleum has nothing to do with Petrol ;o)

Sorry man but you got pwned. Its funny. :)

Doesnt suprise me that it'll go up, but it is nowhere near as popular so it doesnt tend to make the news / appear on peoples radar as often.

The biggest users of LPG nowadays are Taxi Drivers etc.

(The only dedicated LPG vehicle available is a Falcon commonly used as a Taxi, I believe)

It's just because I'm in oz for a while and there are so many cars running on gas over here. I thought I might buy some second hand parts and get it set up in my valiant, not just cos it will be cheaper but as a bit of a project. My old man said it's real unreliable though...and it always needs tuning :(

But, when it's tuned well you can get quite a bit more hp because it has a higher octane than petrol and its cleaner burning.

Higher octane does not give you more power, energy density of LPG is less than gasoline, means that it will make less power from same fuel rate as gasoline.

Have had them in the family forever, never had a tuning problem. Guess it comes down to the setup.
is cleaner burning...smells good for fumes lol.
theres been lots of articles about potential power gains & running lpg turbo vehicles etc, but as above, its not a simple out of the box 'we have more power' because of the octane rating

also much lower emissions and stuff, hence why the aussies like it, easier to keep the epa nazi's at bay.
