Dry Sumping a Race/Rally Motor - Why?

Postby 85AW20v » Tue Apr 18, 2006 11:20 pm

Can anyone tell me the benefits of doing this? I'm not planning to, it's way beyond my budget!!

Is it just for reliability, reducing oil surge, having more oil available to reduce the chances of overheating your oil etc or is it to reduce drag/windage etc and increase available power?
See ya

That answer makes good sense and raises some good points....
It's a pity that it's so expensive and complex. Otherwise they'd do it from factory and we'd all be better off for it!
What is the costs on a dry sump setup (Ballpark figure)?

Ballpark cost - $4000 to $6000 for new.
Might be about 25% less for second hand.
Pump, lines, oil cooler, thermostat, oil tank, special sump.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
