Amp's & Subs
I have A SS Holden Sedan
Just purchased
an Alpine head unit mdw900e MD CD Mp3 run 4x 50w
Had recently Installed
in the front Infinity Componants
rear Alpine 6x9's
Sounds ok . although It could have a little more depth
in the base. is a little bright in the Highs and Mids .
hence I need a an Amp to clean up the sound and a sub for Base
Not looking for Loudness , more Quality of sound
I'm more of a Home audio Hifi person - eg Class A gear quality sound etc
SO who out there can post me their recomendations of AMP's and subs
eg 4 channel
Small good sounding Sub
Cheers

My pioneer sub goes excellent, there under $200, 350rms.
As for amps.. Alpine maybe... the nzicemag website has heaps of gear for sale S/H but still good and cheap..
Re: Amp's & Subs
If you want quality you shouldnt have 6x9's. Do your homework and you will learn they are crap for SQ.
If your after SQ be prepaired to spend $400ish on a sub and another $300 on an amp. But really you should be concentrating on your fronts for SQ and running them off an amp rather than the headunit.
SQ costs money, by the looks of your current system thats something you dont have a lot of. But SQ can be done on a budget, its just harder.

Loose the 'holier than thou' attitude. This aint aint OCNZ.
What if he does have a lot of money? Class A home audio gear costs a lot of $$$
Lup, just get a good 4 channel amp. Run the fronts off this and the 6x9s off the headunit. Get a decent 10" or 12" sub in a good box (have a look over in the nzice forums which someone about earlier http://forums.nzicemag.co.nz/ ) Be careful though, some people on there think cars should be re-designed for the optimum audio setup at any expense instead of listening to a stereo to add to the driving experience. Bridge the other 2 channels on the amp for the sub and you are done.

and what is wrong with cruising and enjoying your driving in a different way rather than spending money on performance bits?
to each their own i say.
as to the setup, i would tend look at installation of your speakers in the front. Optimising position and enclosures will increase your sound quality rather than just going for an amp initially.
as a guide, i'd suggest getting a 4 channel amp, running your front components off channels 1/2 and bridging rear channels for sub bass output.
6x9s can be run off the rear speaker outputs off the headunit.
As to the specifics of particular brand subs and amps, i won't recommend anything per se as you will have to decide based on the information you are provided of course.
Pop over to NZICEMag and see what is available. The brands of car audio equipment has increased markedly over the last couple of years and NZer's now have access to some of the more esoteric european and american brands (which may be of more interest to you as you are home audio inclined)

Agreed, to a point. I don't believe in booming for the sake of it; its dangerous if you can't hear whats going on around you!

I play the guitar and enjoy music. I consider myself sensitive to sound quality and understand the physics involved but it's all about the attitude. Ok, some stereos just sound crap but once you reach a "good" level, if you make some adjustments and spend more money you are only enjoying the fruits of your labour (or bragging about it) not enjoying the music more because of the very slight increase in audible quality. There comes a point where people are more concerned about their image and having an expensive stereo than enjoying the music being played on it!

I think something is awry when it gets to the point where you listen to the SYSTEM as opposed to listening to the MUSIC.
I think a slight increase in audible quality is definitely worth it in regards to enjoying music. There's nothing like making a couple of tweaks here and there, or buying a new piece of equipment.... then when you listen to your favourite song, you hear some sounds that you weren't aware existed quite that prominently in the track.
Brings a smile to my face every time does that.
Good sound is one of those subjective opinions unfortunately, and everyone prioritises it differently.
