Mechanic refusing to fix car

Postby Zyros » Fri Apr 21, 2006 6:42 pm

Took my car to a mechanic, 1 and a half months ago..
Exspecting it to be done in a month, they have hardly touched it.. this place is a mates work..

I found out, that the first week its there he took it and done a huge burnout at the top of the road.. and my other mates drove by seeing the marks, asked the dude who done it.. he nodded and laughed..

Now, my car dont turn on.. he thinks he put the distributor in wrong and lost the marking, and i said well get it fixed because im taking the car at the end of the week..

I txt him etc saying whats being done, is it fixed can you please just fix what you broke (car not starting now) no reply, and i find out today (needing it tommorow to trade it in) he hasnt fixed it.. or has anyone touched it..

The time its being there, they spilt oil on the bonnet staining it.. rubbish inside the vechicles (mc-donalds etc)

What am i meant to do?!? i cant get the vechicle cause it wont turn on, and he wont fix it. or contact me!!

Man that sucks ballz.

Dont txt him, that wont do anything, go in and see him, Tell him, why isnt it fixed, did he give you a quote for the work to be done???

is it a mate whos doing it, or is it your mates work (meaning he just works there, hes not in charge)

Failing getting shitty at him and causing quite a racket, which is wat my first plan would be...ummm...... Got any big mates??? :P

Im sure there is a legal way to get your car back, and quickly. Someone else will no doubt give you a full run-down.

Sorry to hear tho man, hope things get sorted aye.
I had vtax :(

The mate is the son of the owner of the place (CRD automotive off rosebank road)

They dont tell me whats going on, i have being in there.. his dad tells me stuff about the coil.. etc.. when i said ive replaced it and he just says well was it brand new "umm no" exactly, so we will try the coil..

So im getting charged for useless shit..
He thinks he put the distributor in wrong, making it not start and lost the marks or something.. any DIY way to fix this..

to be honnest, going by your side of it, they sound like a real backyard business. A normal (not even good) mechanic knows how to test coils, how to put dizzy's in and, if they put it in incorrectly, its a more than simple job to fix.
"...any DIY way to fix this..."
yes, take dizzy out, bring up to tdc on #1 fire, put dizzy in so the rotor is facing at #1. then can adjust after to correct timing. Its covered in the forum somewhere, so a search will surfice rather than me writing it all out.
get another mate, get a tow back to your place and learn to do...it'l save money, tread, and you will learn so you dont have to pay someone in the future. :)
Cant believe im still a member here.

You can:

1. Starting marking it formal. Deliever him a written notice in writing about your complaints and your requirments.

2. Fair go it. This is very effective.

3. Pick up the car and then take it to a reputable repair agent. Ask them to assess if its been abused and recently broken / thrashed. Get a quote for the clean and repair, and take him to the small claims court. If you have a witness, then you have a real advantage. At minimum you'll piss him off and get one back!

4. Find out if he is a AA or MTA repair agent. If so, complain "In Wriitng" to these guys.

Good luck. If in doubt, collect the car now, and get your own back later.

OK, i'm assuming you've taken your car to them under normal course of business, as opposed to a "perky".

For a start under a normal business arrangement you are covered both by the fair trading and consumer guarantees acts.

You have the right to refuse payment until such time the fault is complete. And if this means having the repair done elsewhere then present a written (copy) estimate to this place of business and advise them you will be sending them the bill unless they fix the fault.

My advice:

Firstly document everything. Date, time, who you spoke to and what took place.

If it does get to mediation or litigation then you have a record of what has taken place, when.

If this was purely a "perky" arrangement then when you do get your car back perhaps choose your "mates" more carefully next time?

I wish you all the best whatever the outcome.

PB.

the flaming poo is far funnier.

1.line a pizza box or similar with paper/tin foil etc and have a dump on it.
2.douse it in meths petrol etc.
3.go to his house, place on doorstep and set alight.
4. knock on door , run away and watch.

there is no beter satisfaction than watching someone try to put the flames out, especially if it is late enough at night and the occupier is in bare feet!!

All I can say is it sounds like this guy is just feeding you shit.

If the dumb $&#$% put the dizzy in wrong, and cant find the marks, thell the stupid $&#$% to put the motor at top dead center, put the dissy with the rotor facing the number one part of the cap, then put HT leds in the right firing order.......

What did it go to these guys to in the first place for, and what sort a car?

my mate's had same problems as u, he sent his skyline gts to pitstop in palmerston north to swap engine to rb20det, and everytime he went to pitstop, they guys said" will be ok later", and gave this sh*t since september last yr untill now, the car is still in pitstop, during this time, his h/u and internor dash panel had been stolend by a staff who was working there, and left at december. and the boss of the pitstop said this happens in every garage, and they do not have responsibility to the loss.
so my mate called police, and booked court at next month to see if he can get loss $$$$

and palmerston north pitstop guys really only do basic jobs, last month they even asked my mate where to connect the hose which come off ssqv bov,..... i got no idea of these guys.

and the way they test wof is to try to rock da car harder and harder.....

My suggestion: Take it to Lyndale Motors instead. They know what they're doing and they don't beat around the bush. They're close to Titirangi as well.

Chances are, Atillia (Owner of Lyndale) will know your 'mates' dad and could tell him that he's gonna do the work and send him the bill!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Currently being in this situation i think i can help.

1. Writie a formal letter to the Mechanic, write down and keep copies of all corresponance, keep a record of all conversations and things that you said here, ie. the rubbish in the car, the burnout issues..... you have to give them the first right of refusal

Give them a deadline on when and what you want done, explain your issues, and once deadline arrives, Call the MTA mediation service 0508 682 633 - (note this is if they are a member) and explain everything to the mediation guy, you will probably have to leave your contact details but they respond real fast.

The MTA will send you out a complaints form, all simple to follow and they will help you if you get stuck, They will then foward a copy of the complaint onto your mechanic asking for a result or an explaination.

This is how i did it, now i am getting about $1500 worth of work done on my car at no cost to me 8) - they sit up and take notice when the MTA is involved

are you very good at head butting? cos thats the stage id b at now if sum1 was $&#$% round with my car like that. being a mechanic, im probly gunna b in the firing line here but in my defense i have to say that this is a poor effort from their side. however, you say that its a mates work. did u actually book the job in through the work place, or through your mate. u may come to blows with your mate, as his work may deny any responisbility for the car and leave him to fit the bill and deal with it.

it sounds like a pretty $&#$% up situation, i mean if it went in for a simple missfire issue and the guy cant even figure out how to put a dissy back in (even if he lost the marks ffs, its not exactly rocket science) and its been in there that long its definately time to take legal action.

putting burning poo on his door step will probly only worsen the problem (although it may be amusing for a lil while... if u really wanna do it, do the random mish :D) use the advice provided and go through the right channels. especially if they are an MTA approved workshop, if u get the MTA officials involved, shit WILL hit the fan.
