Yep running a turbo head will probably be easier in this case.

However be aware that (afaik) the oil pump, water pump etc. were upgraded with the head, and a gen 2 unit will not necessarily be up to scratch. I cant say with any certainty, as I havent really checked.

However i know that there is a difference between the single VVTI engine and the Altezza one, being that there is more depth in the block to allow for the larger oil pump that the Altezza runs.

So oil supply/cooling may have been an issue on the gen 4, which they resovlesd on the 'gen 5' AKA altezza block.

I know that Gen 2 NA's always die from oil starvation issues, eg. running bearings. So it may be something to consider.
Every NA gen 2 that I've heard of that's died, I ask "Did it spin the bearings?" Before they tell me what happened, and they always say "How did you know?!!?" :D

However that may be from lack of maintenance eg. oil top ups/changes more than anything.

I'm pretty sure, due to the mounting angle on the 3S's that lack of maintanence and therefore, not quite enough oil in the sump is the major contributing factor in most cases

Have to say that they look sooooooooo much better in the flesh than the pervious gen ports. Just finished stripping the head down prior to it going, complete with block, to the fabricators for fitting.
Hmmmm, wonder how many other people in the world have been daft enough to fit a 3S into a 220
