Toyspeed prefers?

Postby barryogen » Mon Apr 24, 2006 11:46 am

other than our sponsers(for parts etc), is there any way that we could do a "toyspeed prefers" type thing where we can suggest places we go for stuff, where we've had good service etc...

just wondered.

I mean we could even make it to support other toyspeeders in their employment, as in if you need to get something from DSE, you chat to the toyspeed member who works there to give them the commision, you need mechanical stuff done, you go to where the toyspeed guys works, that sort of thing.

maybe I should clarify what I mean...

I do computer stuff for a living, hence I'm pretty good at it, and if you guys needed a hand, I'd do it for cheap/beer, saving you money, and giving me beer/small cash reward

Sounds like an interesting idea. Myself and Ajz don't have the authority to "do deals" at work so unfortunatly that is out of the question (and we both value our jobs). However I am always willing to do as much as I can, as long as you are not an ass.

Do you mean things like the following:

I always go to Sims Brakes for Gearbox, CV and Brake related stuff. had many good experiences with these guys

Otago Tyres have always been good for tyres in the past

And that new Warrant of Fitness centre (opposite Otago Tyres) was damn good when I got a warrant two weeks ago.

Couldn't agree more! i've put through about 15 cars for a WOF there. They are great people, offer to fix minor things there and then for you and they black your tyres and give you mints :D

I would have to go with.

Curzon for wheels and tyres + suspension

Pitstop for exhuasts

Sims for brakes and clutch

TWL for headlamps etc

And most definatly Otago Oil for, well you can guess. These guys stock Total oil which from my experience seems to be better than the overpriced mobil 1. It costs me $45 for 5 litres of 5w30 full synthetic, thats about the price of blends from most other places.

There are many places which I will not go to again but I don't think that a public forum is the place to list them, especially when one of them is already mentioned on here as a place to go. I think we should stick to good recomendations or discuss it at a meet.

I was planning on organising a subsection a while back, say a thread for each place...

then within each thread, (say one for Curzons), you can post up your experiences with them, be it good or bad, and other users can go off the feedback.

however it might end up turning into badmouthing a few companys, and they might get angry... but within saying that, its our OWN experiences. and everything will need to be modded pretty heavily (stares at lloyd / hrt)

Problem being that if bad stuff is said on here then the blame can be passed on to Toyspeed which isn't really what we want. Good comments on places are welcome, bad ones are not on here please.

btw, if people are wanting cambelts, brakes, clutches etc done then give me a yell :)

well the question is, do i try and push for this idea again? bad posts can be removed, and overall, the company with the most good comments will obviously be better than the rest lol.

eg, if you have 42 good comments about the turbo shop and none for hyperformance (yah yah i know they shut down, just an example), then obviously youd goto the more commented about shop...

no bad things have been said, its just a nudge in a direction...

might be able to score some sponcers too!

I'm thinking of getting my (Skyline GTS-4) gearbox restored at Total Automotive in Jutland Street - anyone thinks i shouldn't then PM me.

They're owed thousands of dollars in unpaid work too. And they fixed up the gearbox etc (for $4,000) on that Impreza that hit the bridge at the top of Stuart Street the week before the accident...

I think they do, there's always a lot of cars in there including an old Mustang and one of the classic silver bullet looking cars that races in the Festival of Speed street race. The guy who drove the car months ago diagnosed the problem as possibly the bearings.

Going to get a mate to check it out this afternoon to see what he thinks. The gearbox whines like a racing 'box, even from idle now, so hopefully it will make it to town and back (going for a WoF today). At about 80 km/h or more the car is really struggling, so i won't be going along any motorways.
