boken pully or wiring prob with 4age

Postby gazza_jay » Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:51 pm

I tested my vvt solanoid by hooking 12 2 both connectors on it and my pully didnt go quiter, so I take it my pully is flogged out.. then I check the connection 2 solanoid and found 1 i positive and the nxt 1 never had power running 2 it.. even reving the engine 2 adjust the throttle.. is this a wiring prob or is it just ment 2 be earth... I thought 1 was pos the other signal and it earthed itself to the engine any help would be good

To power the solenoid you will have to disconnect it first, then apply 12v to one pin and GND(earth) to another.
To check if it is getting the signal connect a test light to socket from solenoid (test light can be any 5W lights with wires going to eash contacts on VVT socket) and flap the throttle (full throttle for a second or two) and see if the the light turnes on.
If you supply 12v to VVT wire or short the VVT connector there is a chance of burning transistor inside (it is $5 darlington) wich will disable VVT, not a bigie I can fix that (done that before, when my mate istalled a VVT light and shorted accidentaly the wires).

If you turn on VVT while idle on hot the car will most likely stall, if you do it while it is on cold idle up stage, it will start to sound like rotary.

Also the VVT signal is actually low active, it is supplying the earth to solenoid, so when you measure the voltage on VVT connector while it is connected to solenoid both wires will be 12V.

cheers man yeah il test it again this way, I was only going on what some1 posted ages ago, im using a l.e.d test light so no matter how low the voltage is it will pick it up its 4 ecu's, if its any constalation my vvt light still works in my car, so yeah ill give it another go and try 4 a signal

if solenoid is connected, Both wires will show 12V, when car is running, if given gas (VVT kicks on) one of the wires will go 0V while the other stays 12V. Can't remember wich one is what. pretty easy to figure out.
