i know brakes but the clutch is hydraulic so this too? anything else? p/s?

QUESTION 2 does the water/ radiater /coolant system need any special additives?

I'd say do your clutch/brakes and power steering. While your doing it all it's better to do the whole lot so you know it's done.

Give the radiator/engine/coolant system all a good flush just with water running through it with a hoze whilest the car is running then fill it with antifreeze and water. You'll have to look on the antifreeze bottel what sorta ratio you have to fill it with the water with.

Clutch and break fluid is the same. Use DOT 5.1
Gearbox oil, just check what Toyota recommends for your engine and use that.

is that sweet while its running?

so what i connect everything up, then pull off a radiator hose and put a garden hose into it, then let the pump take care of the rest???

cheers

I have to try and remember which way around this goes now... :P

I think from memory how we normally do it is remove the the coolant pipe at the back of the motor just in front of the firewall and then I think it was the top radiator hose or maybe just the radiator cap.

Then just put the water hoze in to the rear hoze and make sure it's not pissing water out the sides so hold it tight while the motor is running and water will just come out the other side.

This way all the crap runs out with the water that's running out. Once the water runs out nice and clean drain everything and fill with the anti freeze.

the best way to flush the cooling system is with the engine off .first take the thermostat out, then take off the top radiator hose and reverse flush it by putting the hose in facing the engine. turn on the hose and flush untill water runs clear out of the top of the radiator hose. put the radiator hose back on then the thermostat back in and fill the system with coolant. start the car, warm up the engine and bleed the air.........
want a ae86, dont want to pay 8 grand for one
have to settle for my ae92

Go and get a service manual for your car. It'll teach you the basics on how to do this stuff, and help ensure you dont do anything silly and provide you with more confiidence.

Yes, I'd have to agree to what dazzag has said. When you've finished flushing and refilling the coolant system start your car with the radiator cap removed.

This will give you the chance to keep filling it untill there's enough fluid in there and you can also bleed the system of all the little air pockets that might be sitting around. You'll see the coolant bubble as the car is running and after a while it should stop and you'll only see a line of coolant run. Once you see that you can be save with the knowledge that there is no more silly little air pockets. :D

A manual would be a good start if you are not overly confident with doing work yourself. Things like flushing systems etc are really easy though. Not much you can really screw up or break whilst doing it...

My guess on how to do power steering..

Fill the top tank to almost fill while the engine is running, crank the steering from full lock one way to full lock the other way a couple of times, check and top up the fluid level and repeat again..

keep doing it till there is no drop in fluid level and you should be sweet.

oh yeah, dont forget the fluid resv. has hot and cold levels marked.

Just a sidenote.....Giving blasts of compressed air while the water is flushing helps cavitate and pick up loose scale so you get a better flush but yeah dazzag is on the money

Mount it with the hole up top so it can bleed air.
