Recomended engines for transplant into Isuzu Mu

Postby no_8wire » Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:10 pm

I currently have a Isuzu Mu ute...however teh 2.6 petrol in there isnt up to standard...performance wise..I cant live with one cam!
So I want to put in a toyota engine...now I know it will need a bit of custom work, however at this point its not a concern...

I thought about a supra engine but thats to long...

So what engine would be good? power and ease of parts wise?
I was thinking maybe a V6 out of a camry? ( 2.5? or a 3L)

Any others that I should be aware of?

The 1UZ-FE is a fairly stubby little motor and would sit nicely in the mysterious utilities (yes thats what they are called!) engine bay
It is a myth that emos are contagious, and you may be infected. However, it is still widely accepted to wash your hands after physical contact

From memory the 1UZ is 800x800 or very close to that.

So going by that you should be able to fit it...problem is going to be that it's going to be a VERY tight fit.

Are the MUs FWD or RWD?

If a 1UZ is going be a tight fit then a JZ will definately not go in there...

Well my bad then. Thy always look so damn small to me I figured they must be like a RAV and be FWD or something...

Take a couple of pictures of the engine bay with maybe a tape measure in the pictures aswell so that we can make a more educated guess at what will fit in!!!! :D

What about the Bighorn 3.2L petrol engine? That's quad cam 24 valves, not sure how much power it pushes though. At least it would have a better chance of dropping in and would require little modifications.

Rav4's are 4WD on demand aren't they? Much like the Honda CR-V..

Brevin the GTE is very expensive if you find one for sale but the GE is rather cheap. You can usually pick them up for between 6-800$.

1uzfe will fit sweet as.

they are basically a 700x700 cube. width, height and length

i have done a conversion on an isuzu ute and they have the same engine bay.

fits sweet as. custom engine and trans mounts,
small alternator mod heater hoses are a bit tight.

sounds like words spoken from someone who has never measured one.

a 1UZFE is only 60mm shorter than a 2JZ. Drop a 1UZFE into a surf and you are just as pressed for space as I was with my 2JZ.

If its toyota power you desire then i'd head for the 3.4 V6 VZN185 surf motor. but personally I wouldn't touch an VZ series V6.
