well you can have 1nF capacitor wich can handle AC current of up to 60A, and you can have 1F capacitor wich can also handle same AC current, but those two capacitor are completely two different things...Current is not used to describe properties of a capacitor, but max voltage/capacitance are. If you are using capacitors in DC circuit, it will never have any continous current through going any way, just charge/discharge spikes (charge will last only few ms/us, drawing up to thousands of amps, or maximum short circuit current power supply can provide)...

to be honest I knew that you couldnt describe a capacitor in amps.

I was "brain dumping" the information while talking about work and so I was only half paying attention.

but what you described is effectively how the system works, as far as i know. anyway Im out of my depth and I really stuffed up my descrition, Ill try again.

what I should have said was

you have some smart components and two banks of capacitors while one bank charges the other bank discharges

the systems I have read about can provide enough power to provide a discharge charge cycle of about 10 to 15 seconds before you need to re-charge the batteries.

Interesting thought... Caps won't do the job though. Not enough energy storage capacity until you get to something ridiculous like 15F (note: number pulled from the air, I know it's a really big number but can't even be bothered trying to calc it).
The one system I read up about uses those hi-capacity spiral wound batteries in series to for 24V. They're good for about 4 bursts at around 15 seconds before the batteries start hitting their lowest safe voltage...

batcap.com used to sell 48V spiral wound batteries for use with an electric SC, however tlast time I looked they were no longer in existance.

http://www.boosthead.com/product.php?id=18

he's using a bank of electricity to spin a normal SC up, this is about the only one I've read about that works.

Hahah thats bad but did you see on trademe they are selling something you put on the back of your exhaust to make it sound like a turbo!!!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 733503.htm

Why spend thousands of dollars on a turbo system if you just want the awesome sound? This machined aluminum exhaust insert sits inside your exhaust pipe:

The exhaust blowing through the device is expelled with great force through the small end, creating a turbo spooling sound. In some cases, during shifts, back-pressure is drawn through the device creating a "psssshhhhtttt" type sound (like a blow-off valve).

This is the same device used by big movie companies when they want a normally aspirated car to sound heavily turbo-charged (you really think they are going to spend all that extra time and money turbocharging every car on the set)?!

This whistler is a lot of fun, and if you get tired of it (or install a real turbo), just take it off (or leave it on for double the effect)! At this price...why not?

MAKES A GREAT GIFT!!

$69.95

You know you want one :P

Tee hee. Funny that's the exact one I'm thinking of too....

Batcaps can be found at http://www.batcap.net. But I don't think they do 48V batteries anymore.

Yeah, the friendly fellows at Thomas Knight Turbos gave me details for the setup to a prototype small unit they were looking at. I'm just trying to sort out engine and other stuff before I go off buying bits to try and make one...
The design shows some promise. Should be able to give a 4AGE around about 5psi boost right up to redline... We'll see what happens if i manage to build one...

Come on guys give the fella a break.

I'm running 10 of these puppies in a row.

My cars so economical it produces its own fuel. the gas stations have to siphon and buy off me each week.

Plus I'm making mega HP now and gonna run some 4 sec 1/4 miles
