Whats your 'diagnostic' People

Postby Zyros » Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:20 pm

Still trying to solve this car problem..

When cold, works fine.. when warm the engine cuts in and out..
Always at certain point when you take your foot of the clutch...
And when your driving along when warm, the engine cuts in and out (feels like misfiring) starting from the high gears down to the low.. and gets worse and worse..

Its a problem which has got worse over time, yet the car drives fine in reverse!

Any idea's what it could be?

what vechicle is it? i saw a ae101 corolla with that problem ended up being a broken igntion wire deep in the loom. when the cluch was released and the engine engaged with the gearbox the wire wont loose contact and the engine would cut out, didnt happen in reverse too

Have you checked the ECU for codes? (if you can on those?)

Failing that, take it to Toyota, I'm sure they'd have a diagnostic machine to plug into it, and see what the issue is.

I'd stick with the 12 signal.

If you can replace the dizzy, and temporarily swap out the ECU. There really is only three options, and you have eliminated one with the loom....

Oh, you do know the RPM signal wire is generally shielded.
It must be earthed and if the shielding is slightly damaged it might be picking up a weird signal from another wire.... hence the stumble and the 12 signal error.
The answer is Helmholtz!
