No real interest in this topic, but (my comment is not worthy of a whole new thread), for the ae86 fans out there, I noticed march edition of retro cars had a several page writeup/review about the ae86. Its an import mag, so go to a decent magazine shop.

If european cars are better than japanese cars you obviously havent worked on a jag.

And thats way too general. Id rather work on a toyota than a beemar, but rather work on a rover than a mitsi, etc.

Point is this thread is useless i guess.

Ae86's, either you love em, or your in denial

god this is like talking to a brick wall.

How can you compare a "jappa" (generallised car) to a pug diesel.

You cant its like comparing a wrist watch to a desktop pc. So over it

lets put it this way.....

If I you had to do work on a car, lets say an ae-86 compared to a bmw of the same era, which would you prefer?? i know where I stand on that one, BMW of the era are total crap, use way to much gas, and are so over enginnered it would take you three days to do anything.....

an ae-86 is well desinged, with logical steps, is fuel efficat, and you can still drift them at the end of the day, and wont cost you an arm and a leg to buy parts........

And britsh cars are just crap, I think we can all agree on that.......... Only the god dman poms can desing a car that if you want to take out a drive shaft you either remove the complete diff, or the complete motor, I am ovcourse talking about those e-type jags.. my god...........

Agreed, the standard issue beamers of those days are pretty shitty.

Unfortunately, I will disagree on the AE86 parts issue ... seen the prices of Toyota RWD gearboxes on trademe these days? It has come to a point where you get a free motor with a gearbox, not the other way round. However I have no idea about other AE86 parts, but I'm sure they are more expensive now than they used to be.

Also, there is one british car maker that stands out to me ... TVR. But I guess they are at the other end of the market and now owned by the russians. Of course TVR is damned by car journos like JC for being pretty poorly engineered ... things do break on these things.

So yes, british cars do suck. :?

But then, Ive owned many british cars, kept them maintained and never had any huge problems. Would not exactly say they are hard to work on either- pece os piss. Depending on the car, rust is the british cars biggest issue...and the ae86 aint exactly the best with that either.
