Boost Gauge and 4AGZE

Postby beeker » Sun Sep 18, 2005 9:46 pm

I've got an Autometer 20psi boost gauge in the 4AGZE. Problem is, at no throttle it reads approx -4psi, and at full throttle approx +4psi. The previous spitfire did approx the same.

Have i hooked it up wrong, or is this normal for a 4AGZE ?

thx in advance.

dont you tee into the vacuum line that goes from the intake manifold to the brown vacuum valve which operates the fuel pressre regulator?

It looks like you've hooked it up to the vaccum line that goies to the FPR, not the line that comes from the inlet manifold. I think the one you want to tap into is the one running in front off the otehr two vaccum lines in the picture, going by a comparision with my "before" picture of a AE101 VSV bypass:

(I'd rotate the picture so it corresponds to your's, but I can't be arsed.)

Any chance of a pic of where "the line that comes from the inlet manifold" hits the manifold ?

From looking at my car, the other two options either go to the ~wategate or the supercharger.

no the one that comes from the inlet manifold bolted to the block, not the ones from throttle body or anywhere else

My problem was finally resolved with decent OEM vacum tubing. The crap stuff i got from supercheap caused the whole problem !!

It will matter especially if its low quality that allows the pressurized air to escape while traveling through the line, this will result in a lower and false reading on the gauge, bit like a hose with pins holes in it

out of interst, i have this shitey vac tube, and in every guage ive had, (2) the needle always shakes at full bost, varying by about 2 psi, like a really rapid shake, so i can never tell if its actually 5psi or 7psi (so i say 6).

Would a better hose in theory fix this? anyone had the same problem?
