ct12a turbo's off 1jzgte..

Postby YeMs » Mon May 08, 2006 1:44 pm

hey just wondering if anyone knows how different the ct12a turbo's on the 1jzgte are from the ct12 turbo's on the 1ggte? is it possibly to swap any of the parts over to make them fit the standard manifold on the 1ggte?

They are heaps different.
You can fit them on a 1G if you really wanted to but it would require some custom fabrication to make them fit.

More trouble than it's worth IMHO.

I think i'm in the same situation as you, aka. have a 1G that has incredibly lacking turbos.

From what i've gathered/been told is this: It'd be best to switch to a single turbo, eg. a Ct-26 or a ct-20 if u can find one. Best output for input (Less money for more bang).

P.S Beer + keyboard = problem.

oh ok, yeh im not worried about performance, more so that the turbo seals are worn and leaking into the exhaust causing it to smoke profusely. problem is, this is a common problem for these turbos, so finding decent replacements is difficult. i could get them from a wrecker for it to happen again in a few months.

yeh i have considered a single turbo, problem there is the exepence or firstly the turbo, and secondly the manifold. i could make 1 myself i think, but 6 cylinder manifolds are a lil more complicated than 4 cyl manifolds. guess i could copy setup and run the twin 1jz turbos or twin gtr turbo's or something.

ideally im looking for the best value for money spent.

When i baught my GA-70, it had $&#$% turbos, as you said, spent $&#$% of money trying to get them fixed (so they wern't puffing smoke like a hippie in the 70s) In the end paid some guy who knew what the hell he was doing 140 bux, fixed it, perfect. Never had a problem with them since (except for the mass turbo lag) basically, the problem is, the oil flange on them warps slightly makeing them leak like bastards. So just take them off the car, get the flanges machined and pop them in, i think they are metal on metal joins, as a rubber seal would get ruined by the heat.

Should fix them up tropper.

Again beer. (memory, slightly ruff)

Of course, this was to fix the smoke, But the smoke came from the engine bay rather than through the exhasut, meaning the turbos were leaking externally rather than internally. So if your problem is the exhuast is puffing blue smoke, then ignore my previous advise :)
