Remote Start Install, Who Wants Beers Or Money!!

Postby varix » Mon Apr 10, 2006 8:03 pm

I have just purchased an alarm with remote start. Ive had the alarm installed but not the remote start, as the install was done professionally they refused to install the remote start as it is apparntly illegal with a manual transmission.
Fair enough.

I have tried installing myself, but to no avail. My electronics skills are very amature and all I suceeded in doing was giving myself an extreme headache from all the soldering.

Anyway, who wants to help me out here? Im in Christchurch and willing to buy a dozen or give some cash for someone to help me get this thing in. It consists of about 10 wires, most of which connect to the module already installed. It comes with a wiring diagram to. Id say anyone good with electronics would have it done in a flash.

P.M me or reply back to this post.

Cheers

why do you want remote start, wank factor? You could get apush button start wired up pretty easy, like get in the car turn key to acc and then push button to start

The alarm i purchased came with it, and was only fractionally more expensive than the model without the remote start. So why not. I can start my car from my bed in the morning and have it warm ten minutes later when I leave for work... (my car is parked on the street).

Uhm.

Its 'apparently illegal' yet you want to install it anyway?

Just because somethings illegal doenst mean some one stops wanting it....And i would look into that anyway as im not sure it is illegal.

No, i'm not sure that it is either.
I do recall a case reported in the herald a couple of years ago of an accident caused by a car which was remote started whilst in gear - a manual.

A bit of googling indicates that most manufacturers design their remote start kits for Autos only, but manual ones definately exist. None of the answers were from NZ, though.

(I question the smarts behind butchering an existing remote starter for a system designed for Autos only, though. The electronics required in terms of checking 'in gear' status are different for a manual, surely.)

A mate of mine had a remote starter in his Starlet. Never had any legal issues that i know of.

And yes it was a manual.

Im fairly sure they must have a wire checking the car is in park. You could use an infared led and some know how to make a neutral switch in a manual.
