Plastic pipes in Plenum?????

Postby 20v_rollaboy » Wed May 10, 2006 12:25 am

Hey there people, just a quick question.

The factory pipes in the plenum that do the mean bendy thing, what is their purpose? Would I be helping myself if I took these off? Or is their a reason for them that I cant see?

Thanks for help

Yes you would be helping yourself.

What happened was, Toyota, having done a lot of plumbing work on the hq were left with 1 million black plastic tubes. What should we do with all these tubes the boss said? I know, piped up one engineer, lets put them in the 20v surge tanks. Great idea that man, said the boss. Will they have any benefit? He asked. None what so ever but if somebody in New Zealand wanted to help themselves they should take them out.

And so was the story of the black tubes.

Yeah, the 20v was designed to be a killer engine, but the engineer thought that the people who drive 20v's don't deserve the power, so they put these plastic velocity stacks (trumpets, whatever) in there just to lower the power output.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Well fcuk thankyou everyone for all your helpfull advice 8O

A simple "no, they are there for a reason" would have sufficed.

But really, what would they be doing there if they weren't for a good reason? Just hanging out, nothin better to do when you're a black tube?

Well, I guess there's the possibility that someone who doesn't know a bit about fluid dynamics could assume that they were there to stop noise or something. There's a lot of other goals that need to be met when designing and engine, not just power. Perhaps if you're open minded about it you could understand that not everyone understands... :)

Without agreeing with your language, i agree. A simple yes or no or a good explanation would have been better than some of the responses received.
