Wanted: Corolla Gt/Gti (NZ new) info

Someone must be able to help me...
I'm looking for info on NZ new AE92 Corolla Gti's. I have just bought one and was wondering where it fitted into the mix.

I know AE82 GTs were NZ assembled. Yet my AE92 GTi-16 (May 1988 registered) is a Japanese assembled NZ New model with NZ features such as 240kph speedo, non power steer etc.

Were some Japanese assembled AE92 Gti's sold in NZ before we began to assemble the Gti? ( and if so how many) Or was the AE92 Gti-16 not built in NZ?

Any information and numbers would be greatly appreciated, or point to any other sources...

It wasn't uncommon for low volume models to be brought in fully assembled, ie Jap made but to NZ spec, I would hazard a guess yours was one of the first few 92 GTi's in NZ, most likely toyota imported a handful to test the market and then when the sales took off started assembling GTi spec locally???

My 1990 was a NZ assembled. Could never find much info on them. Would be intersting to know how many were actually built.

I might try and get some info from Toyota although its usually fairly difficult, especially to get numbers etc
