Initial D Ae86 Sound Issues

Postby varix » Wed May 10, 2006 10:08 pm

After just recently watching alot of the early initial d episodes (initial d is cool, you all know it) where the ae86 is running the 16v engine I have wondered what is required to make this type of 4age sound as it does in the cartoon. I have no idea if the car sounds are based on the real car sounds or if they are just made up, but i know that my engine is the same as the fujiwara ae86 and it sounds nothing like it.

After hearing my mates 20v silvertop 4age I have realised that it sounds more similar to the fujiwara 16v, where as my 16v sounds like a can full of stones rolling down a hill at 100mph.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what is required to make my engine sound less like a tin full of stones, and more similar to the nice purr of the fujiwara 86 and the 20v engines.

I am thinking something to do with the exhaust? Although im not keen on putting a 10inch fag barrell on the rear of the car.

Cheers, I hope this makes sence :)

Run some form of turbo muffler, flowmaster 2 chamber etc.. I have a flowmaster in mine, and as much as I love referring real life to that cartoon, my car does sound like that. Not your typical bees in a can sound, It has a much deeper, sportier note to it, not too loud either.

I run full 2.5 inch with one coby, and is really deep, sounds like an evo. Having never seen initialD i couldnt really tell you if its similar, but i know that the more restriction you have, the tinnier it will sound.

eerrrrr.. if you put RX7 exhaust, you think it will sounds like rotary?
is mainly just the induction noise that you hear in the cartoon. They are based on real life engine sounds recording. I noticed when my 86 with factory airbox and cut some holes on them, it make it exactly the same as the one in the cartoon. Also when it got the factory extractor 4-2-1 system. now i got pod and 4-1, it sounds different.

Yea, um, the exhaust note/sound output of an rx7 would be a lil different compared to two 4ages...

And by switching over the exhaust you would then have the same mufflers/resonators etc that my engine has (the one he has heard and wants it to sound like), my car creates this noise/music with that setup, why shouldnt his 4age?

granted there are differences in the engine, but nothing that major that i would expect to explicitly change the exhaust note between a 16v and 20v

Question is, are you referring to the Fujiwara sound before or after he blew the engine? ;)

The engine that blew up was a 16v bluetop tvis 4age. The engine that replaced this, the fujiwara special was a highly modified 20v silvertop 4age.

Like dirtbag mentioned, my car does sound like it has a hole in the exhaust, and the owner before me said it started making that sound when they installed a pod filter. I think like someone metioned before, that if i free up the exhaust, ie, removing cat and installing a new muffler, that it may sound alot nicer...
