Government complaining about petrol tax revenue?

Does the government NOT tax buses and trains or something?
They must be reaping tax still just indirectly.

So on one hand they are providing ways of saving petrol and on the other they are whining because tax revenue is dropping...
Maybe the dole should be cut or something... that would save some tax $$$

I walk to work alot more now which is a shame, cos I enjoy driving alot.

[rant]I Believe that some of the Tax proportion that is put onto petrol is a fixed amount, This would be the portion that goes into the roading fund that they talk about. As petrol sales have dropped (because the "economicaly dissadvantaged" that they supposed care about so much can't afford to fill up) the revenue from this part of the petrol taxes has dropped slightly. They then say that the roading fund will have to be topped up from the general fund, how sad because this is where most of the rest of the tax on your gas is going and where they are gaining big time on the high prices, they are just trying to twist the figures to make themselves look good and provide excusses for not doing other things like tax cuts, or health care or funding the lesbian herbal arts collective in thier fight against anyone acctually creating jobs for people (OK maybe not the last one).[/rant]
