Running 7mgte valves in a 4age

Postby no_8wire » Sun May 14, 2006 12:06 am

Has anybody done this? apparently they are 2mm larger... but they're about 2mm shorter than the 4AGE ones, so much thicker shims are needed..anybody know were I can get thicker shims? Or get them made?

Toyota sell shims, but I dont know if they cover 2mm bigger or not.
Its a bit of head work to put in larger valves, and they dont flow too bad anyway...

lol, yeah, didnt think there would be for 4age, -thought there may have been some other model with different sizes. You would be worried about it if you needed a 2mm bigger on on your 4age through wear!

I recall somone a while ago talking about problems with shims staying in. I think it was due to cam. They tacked the shim to the bucket off memory. That may be required here to possibly?

If youre going to put n bigger valves , why half ass it with shim on top bucket setup- club 4ag has a nice article on a single piece bucket/shim that is a no fuss swap for the 4ag 2 piece buckets.
Why you looking for bigger valves may i ask?

Well as I am using the 16v head for my 7agte...I thought I would enlarge the valve size as well, so I can get more fuel in quicker = more power...
Well thats the idea anyway...

Yes they prob could...however, just because they have been, doesnt mean that you wouldnt get more power from bigger valves...

yes, but i ask again, how much power will you want.

What are you using the car for.

if you run big valves on a formula atlantic ported head on 8.0 compression with 5 pound boost and 304 cams, your really just being silly.

Otherwise its hard to help you, that is why there is knowledgeable people cruising round the forum not answering, as they dont have enough info to give you an answer.

Shimless buckets come in 26 sizes and are around about 270 USD for a set of 17 (one spare)

Toda valve springs are about 120 USD.

Theyd be good for any lift, any power.

If you want to buy them open a pay pal and buy them :)

I know that...but want something abit different...plus torque is good!
Plus I want to have a drivable car off boost, as most driving really will be done when full boost isnt on...
But mostly something different.

there thats better.

Dont get bigger valves.

It will be chaos in an MR2 (im assuming) and at 260-300 whp, the smaller the ports the better, definitely go for a smallport head with stock valves, on a 7a bottom end, stock rods, bored out to fit 8.9:1 pistons, rebuilt it all nicely, run a link and a t28 or similar, youll be stuggling to get under 300 whp methinks

Big valves will mean really piss poor off boost performance, as will a bigport head.

Grotty's 7agte would be perfect for you....

Postby ezy10s » Sun May 14, 2006 5:56 pm

standard ze with decent amount of boost will give you everything you just described except for the different factor, fair enough though somehting different is always fun.

Still- for that sorta ower you wont need much in thw way of head mods, i suggest you ring that guy i mentioned in that pm and he'll see you right
