AE92 FXGT REDTOP SMALLPORT REMOVING AIR CON?

Postby B1NZ » Mon May 15, 2006 6:12 pm

Has anyone done this? How do you go about it, as the Aircon belt for memory runs something else, water pump or P/s??

I sthere a smaller belt that you know of that fits with out the Aircon pump there?

try find a gti motor with out aircon, my 1's got p/s with out aircon. just use the adjuster and pulley, far as im aware aircon tensions the belt.

It runs P/S. I did this on 2 x 4AGEs. you can rig something to push/swivel the P/S pump away from the block creating tension. Replace belt with smaller belt.

Yep, removing Aircon takes the belt away from its tensioner (which is seperate to the aircon pump), so you need to find a new way of tensioning that belt. Best bet is as gepsk8 said, find a power steering pump that has a tensioner built into it, or adapt the existing one to provide tension.

Smaller belts can be had quite easily. Just measure the length the belt needs to be, and bowl down to repco/bnt and get one..
