Sorry about the off topic post, but i thought i should post it here as this is probably the most relevant section
If any of you will be looking to flat in about 2 months, we may have an opportunity for you.
The wife and I have just decided to rent a house in Beckenham - nice area, quiet, not a busy street, treelined road, 5mins walk to the supermarket, restaurants, river etc, and about 5 mins drive from the central city.
The house is being completely redone by the landlord - its having all new carpet, fresh inner walls and insulation, new bathrooms, etc. The upstairs, where we'll live is already finished, but the downstairs will be finished in about 2 months. Its looking REALLY nice, hence why we jumped at it, it looks like a brand new house internally.
Anyway, once its done it will be a four bedroom, 2 bathrooms and 2 lounges house, which we simply dont need. So we're looking for a sub-let tenant who wants to take a section of the downstairs area of the house.
Below is a floorplan of the downstairs area, showing what we're offering - you'd get whats shaded gray.
So essentially, you'd get a bedroom, another bedroom you could also use as a TV room or small lounge, and your own bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity. The three rooms can be closed off from the rest of the house for privacy by closing the door between the 2nd lounge and the bathroom. As noted, there is a 2nd lounge area (as opposed to our 1st lounge, upstairs), which could be communal by arrangement - it would be used for our spare bed and spare couch, and could be used for your TV or audio system if you require. There is also a reasonable sized cobblestoned back yard that faces onto the top edge of the diagram, which will have our BBQ out there - both of which the tenant will be welcome to use (so long as they clean the BBQ after use and dont mind refilling the gas tank every so often
). There is no downstairs kitchen, but you are welcome to use ours if necessary and you dont make a huge mess.
We're a pretty quiet couple, so we'd prefer a tenant who isnt into having huge parties, loud music or noisy late nights... this would ideally suit a single guy or gal who is reasonably quiet and tidy (we dont mind you having the occasional party, so long as it doesnt go nuts and doesnt make enough noise to wake the dead). You'd also be responsible for ensuring your section of your house is tidy - we're not keen on a messy tenant, we've been through that before and it was hell.
In light of our slight fussiness about the behaviour of the tenant, we're not asking a lot for whats offered - we're looking at between $110 and $140 a week, depending on how much power the tenant will use and what furnishings they need us to provide. You'll also get free usage of our cable broadband service (within reason - i have a 20GB plan and currently use less than a third of that, so as long as your internet habits stay under 10GB or so a month, you'll be fine. If the service goes over the 20GB a month, you'll be liable for the excess payments)
If you think you'd be interested (baring in mind the 2 months wait or so), let me know. We're a pretty cruisy and laid back couple, and the house is lovely, so we're sure you'd enjoy it
Also, if we know soon enough, theres a good chance you could have some say in the renovations, so we could swing it to suit some of your needs
BTW, we're a 27 and 26 year old married couple, no kids, 2 cats, pretty quiet. And we're not nosey or noisy types, so it would be a pretty private arrangement, your area would be yours without us gadding by every 5 minutes, we'd only normally need to come downstairs for doing the washing or other occasional reasons
