Wheels shaking

Postby BZR4AGE » Tue May 16, 2006 9:48 pm

I know this is a Toyota Forum, but just thought is a general tech question, and maybe someone can help my poor friend.

Recently he had an accident in his Nissian S15 Spec R2, and after repairs, swap of new mags, and a wheel alignment, the wheels start shaking when at speed of around 100km/h.

What can be wrong? Alignment not done probably? shocks? or chassis?

Any advice welcome

Cheers

opps, sorry, should have been more clear.

The steering wheel shakes, but not sure if it is noticable outside, but at aorund 100ks, the steering wheel vibrates, but not turning left or right, but just vibrates.

Cheers for the quick reply

Yup wheel balance is up the piss. Check all the wheels for a nail, a rock or anything stuck in the tyre can cause this. Or the wheels just werent balanced when the last tyres were put on.

To fix it, either put up with it till he replaces the tyres, or take it to a tyre shop and get them balanced, probaly between $5-$10 a wheel.

Major guess here, but have you been on the beach with it lately.... or somewhere where something could have stuck on a wheel?

Just thought I would ask, as I went on the beach with my old car, and open road driving was horrible - stopped and noticed a clump of sand on the wheel making it not balanced...

Prob not relevant tho.

Cheers

Or possibly one of the "new" wheels was dropped and damaged - Less likely but still an option.

obvously go the wheel balance first, as its cheap and quite possibly it...but if its been in an accident, the rack is also quite possibly a proble, and just missed when repaired...after all pannelbeaters are not mechanics.

haha, yeah, ive had that happen before, feels like the car is going to explode!

I'd bet its the wheels need balancing, those little lead weights can fall off sometimes

hi there guys, my mate had done a wheel balance, although it did minimized the shake, but still a little bit can be felt - Which is not the normal vibrations. What else can we check? because the shake was not there before the crash. Cheers

I'd check out the rack & all related joints bushes etc including bushes on the hubs.Perhaps a crapped out tierod?

additionally, when he crashed, did he lock up the wheels? U mention the mags being changed, but perhaps if the old tyres were put on they have a flat spot?...just an additional thought sometimes people miss

above you say it does not shake when turning left or right, is that still the case?
My aw11 did that before I changed the rack bush which was shot. The aw11 rack is not the best of designs, but perhaps it is something similar going on in your mates one.

hi there. Nope, it dosen't shake when turning left or right. just when on the motorway at about 100ks, the wheel shakes a bit, even when the it is not under acceleration.

Anyway, will tell my mate to check the rack. Thanks anyway
Cheers :P
