blue top exhaust

Postby Pies » Thu May 11, 2006 7:22 pm

hey i know this is a fully n00b question (well maybe not, but i feel like a n00b askin it)

gonna re do my exhaust and want to know what i should be running.
i know 4ages like back pressure so i was wondring weather i should be running 2" or 2 1/4" pipe. 1 or 2 resonators. and what sort of rear muffler

i dont want the typical droning big bore sound, infact id rather it to be dead silent. but i dont mind a bit of noise if it has to be like that.

engine is a 4age bluetop big port (what ever you wanna call it). gonna be running high compression and "fast street" cams from kelfords.

cheers all

If you're gonna cam it, then 2 1/4 with mandrel bends will be the go.

2 1/4" with a Louvered resonator, ive said it 53463 times but the key to the good sound is a turbo muffler (flowmaster etc), then anything but an RPS on the end.

ok so piping will go something like...

(extractors) - (Louvered Super Turbo Muffler) - (straight through muffler/resonator) or (louvered muffler)

Internal Diameter of all pipe 2 1/4"

v useful jebus :)

just though id ask: my standard bluetop exhaust manifold sticks out to far and manifold exit is pointing straight down at the steering arm... (not sure of proper name)

looks like ill need some custom extracotrs made up that are a little more block hugging? not sure if theres any other RWD 16v 4age exhaustst that hug the block more? probly best to get soem made up. need to seeit really.

might take some pics. (ke30)

Use 20V Extractors, do what ever the FWD kids do to the 4-2 collector (have a search), 2 1/4" piping to the turbo muffler, 2 1/4" piping to the louvered resonator (whatever length fits best) then to a bling cannon or whatever on the rear.

Coby do a set of RWD 4AGE conversion extractors, these *just* fit, to make them work you need to bash an indent into the #2 runner, just enough to miss the steering idler arm, and give enough clearance for vibrations etc.. Id also suggest heatwrapping them if theres any wiring etc running near them. And also modify them to take the O2 sensor.

OMG those old style mufflers are so restrictive & sound like crap. What you need is a nice Apexi N1 style exhaust. Why do you think the top japanese performane brands make this style? Its no just for looks, its because it flow the best & gives the best power increase. http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_exhaust.asp they also have removable silencers available too so you can keep you sanity on long trips & remove to release the top end power when racing etc

What old style mufflers are you talking bout???

I know mine is shit, the exhaust hits a wall at 90 degrees hehe.

Goes frickon hard and my car has frick all power anyway, so an N1 would probably decrease my HP.

Speed is nothing without style you know haha

Because they are a business and if it sells, they will sell it...

People want big shiney exhaust so they fill the market...either they do or the competiors will, so they figure might as well make a buck and sell them to.

my ultra hard core exhaust system goes something like:

very elderly coby resonator
some random second hand resonator out of a charade turbo system
some random second hand muffler out of a charade turbo system

Can't even recall what size pipe it is... gosh I'm slack.

buying a product just coz it has apexi or hks on it is stupud
those companys often make crap thet sells only coz of the name their good bits made for them selves.

pies, get 20v extractors, custom 2-1 bit coupla resonators and a good muffler as mentioned like flowmaster. 2 1/4" as mentioned is the best size.
for a cheap option maybe the passenger side one off an ae101?

i have been in this car and it needs serious help :x
