It should be a boyracer forum instead, most cars here are just plastic fantastics...

Where's all the TA22's Ae86s etc..

times change, i'm sure you were before my time, as i've NEVER seen you at anything toyspeed related, so not sure how its "lost its appeal" for you.

as time progresses (it does that) newer cars become more popular, thats to be expected, but older cars do still have their fans, I have a bit each way, but in general, cars that show up for the events etc, are newer than the "ae86s and ta22s"

but thats life 8)

I agree with you BZG Bling, times have moved on and I don't use this site anymore because

1. I'm an old bastard , my priorities have changed e.g O.E's , buying a house etc.. The site is attracts the younger crowd - the cars commonly reflect that as well with Levins, Starlet.

2. Sold my old toys - TA22 , AE86 etc

3. There is no club feel to the Christchurch network anymore.

4. My dislike for plastic body kits.

5. The amount of rubbish coming from members with no knowledge.

thats my 2cents

Mr Surfwagon sir...

In the time I was involved with Chch Toyspeed, a tad over 2 years, untilI shifted back up North.

The club "feel" as you put it was IMO alive and well over that period (excluding the latter months as it did drop off a bit... no a LOT). I found TS to be an easy going group of people, keen to help with any matters, keen for a cruise, or to just hang out and have a barbie etc. I actually felt that the sense of community that prevailed around the TS group of people was excellent, far more welcoming than that of what you may call a "proper" car club, in my case the Chch branch AROCNZ.

If you'd have turned up to numerous PBDRC drag meets throughout that period, I think you would probably retract the statement about "boyracers" considering the relatively large segment of TS Chch member base that attended these drags, be it spectator or competitor (I could name over a dozen who competed).

And I personally think that staying away from meets on account of bodykitted cars is a bit childish for someone who proclaims themself to be "an old bastard."

Why not try to do something constructive, and take it upon yourself to take part in the resurrection of TS Chch, instead of whinging and moaning about times past and how it fails to compare these days (in your eyes).

Really depends who you mean as REAL enthusiasts though. The ae86's are in hiding not wanting others to think they want them more than their owners
1983 Trueno Ae86 ( project), 92 HSV Clubbie. 2000 Fielder wagon
Many previously owned projects: 94 Hilux 4WD, 92 VP SS commodore, AE85 notchback, Ae85 rolling shell, Ke35 sr coupe, EP82 turb starlet

FYI: JT brought his ae86 off Surfwagon. Thats before he went north(?). So really Surfwagon hasnt even been near a Chch TS event for sometime.

The good ol' "boyracer" label gets bashed a tad too much in my opinion. And its a far cry from enthusiast with modified cars. But the boyracer/enthusiast subject has been brought up so much that it creates arguments. So leave it alone.

As a nightshift worker and father, I dont get to see anyone from TS, dont get time to go to monthly events, and certainly dont go to thursday night meet-ups.
But I have seen a slow decline in this regions activity. Though with winter here I doubt too many events will happen, let alone with the price of petrol(!). Lets face it when there was a cruise to anywhere, not many people went bar the few 5 or 6 who went to almost every event, myself included.

The point I posted this thread up was because I hadnt seen much of a club happening. Not like it was when I first joined back in 2003. And in reality, events shouldnt be organised by Mods only, should they? They only moderate the post within this region, and aren't solely organisers.

May be Chch TS just needs a good swift kick in the pants :?:  :P

Sounds like a womans weekly thread going by the comments."

Bart: Because we are poor?
Homer: Exactly. And why are we poor? Because we have kids.
