Countdown to a 20/20 article.....

Postby RomanV » Thu May 11, 2006 12:53 am

Well lets look at the facts here.

Drifting is growing in popularity, every day.
The first NZ d1gp is this month.
Fast & furious 3, titled tokyo drift, (Which no doubt glorifies street drifting culture) is soon to be released.

ETA to a rediculous 20/20 article talking about dangerous street drifters (while interviewing a $&#$% face with a $200 laurel that says he drifts through 40kph school zones) is F&F3 release + 3 weeks.
As they jump on the latest controversial band wagon.

mark my words.....

I was about to say, when's the article?... ;)
But what about the dangers of mixing P & mobility scooters.

Whatever can be blown out of proportion & controversial & things that make people angry... its all good TV.

All we need is someone to do a donut around a 5year old on a school crossing "just like the D1 boys did to the cones at 2H2H"

Looks to me like a case of the media thinking "Oh my god, every drifter is dangerous!!! Maybe we should get them stopped." As per usual with stuff like this, they probably interviewed someone who has a crap car and is one of the idiots that the media is trying to stop. Will be interesting to see how balanced the story. By all legal precidents, if 20/20 show a story, they should be showing both sides of the story. I know for a fact that most people who drift WOULD NOT be doing it around schools. Why risk your car getting damaged and/or impounded when you can do it safely somewhere else and have far more fun?

Should be an interesting story anyway...
If I wanted your opinion, I would have given it to you!

If 20/20 did a story on the 'safe side of drifting' they would get no viewers and the episode wouldn't be aired...

It's all about getting people flamed up.
Media don't care about both sides of the storie....only the side that sells.

I remember possibly last year or the year before 60mins/20/20 had an article about boy racers, and it showed a majority of wheelspins, drunk people getting rowdy, donuts, intensly loud exhausts, idiots with cars sitting on cuddies bo. While I know that happens alot, it woulda bin nice to see a slightly more balanced view, but then again its the media so whatever makes a better story.
I can imagine a 20/20 article stating that there have been these many deaths in the last year from illegal drifting (they will using the ubergizmoatron statistics creator) and that this group of people do it around these roads, Ill b suprised if anything is mentioned about the fact trackdays for drifting/D1NZ even exists, or the fact that the drifters with skill/brains are against the use of public roads.

considering the large amounts of people who go drifting down at the port in dunedin here, i'm surprised some crash or otherwise hasn't been in the news yet

They should do a 20/20 article on the crazy driving that is done by taxi drivers between jobs. I was coming down a road the other day with a median strip, all of a sudden this bluebird taxi go whizzing by on the median/in the other lane, he was doing at least 100 in a 50k zone, he just got back into his own lane as cars started streaming past from the opposite direction. I had earlier spotted him after merging after traffic lights about 3/4 cars behind me. I doubt this is uncommon considering how much stupid and crazy driving i see by taxi drivers. I commonly see taxi drivers weaving like theres no tommorow down twin laned roads, into some TIGHT spots. And what really made me laugh one day was traffic was kinda slow, this taxi looks to pull out and tries to get out in front of me, but i jst kept on going past him, he drives along the side of the road beside me swearing and abusing me saying what a cock I am im such an impatient prick and why dont ya show some respect, I just yelled back hey buddy your a taxi driver of all things, dont talk to me about respect of other drivers, he went bright red and shutup but then tailgated me all the way to my street. (about 8/9 ks worth of travel)

Sorry for the off topic rant!

Are the time constaints put on them to tight for them to get from job to job in time without risking lives?

My ke70 got written off by a taxi driver.

the car was parked on the side of the road, he thought it would be a good idea to not look at the road and write off TWO cars, 2L telstar, and my ke70 which was in front of it... He put the telstar into mine to write it off, it was collateral damage. Wanker.
