I owned a 1990 SiR for about three months, and it was for sale for two of those months. Not a nice car in my opinion. Poor handling, diabolical gear shift, traction was a joke without a LSD, and just not enough room in the thing.

I'm not automatically a Toyota fanboy either, having owned a couple of Honda's that I liked, but that gen CRX really just does nothing for me.

yeh i would go for an EF civic rather than a EF crx. Defintly get the ZC model, ZC's are fairly easy to turbo and has been done allot, also h22a's have been proven to fit into a EF civic :wink:.

i have nothiing to prove this with, but ive heard its the worst car to be in a crash with. plus out of all the vtecs they are the $&#$% gayest!

CRXs are alright eh, I went from an AE82 to an EF7 (CRX Si 88ish onwards) and I reckon the CRX is a better car

Fuel economy is just amazing, driving at 100k on the open road I got 20km/litre, lucky to get 12km/litre in the corolla

CRX goes harder, better torque low down and handles better too

Rust isn't really a prob, EF CRXs are much better than Gen 1. Just like AE82s versus AE92s.

The only downside is that the motors don't last. 4ages seem to go and go, and can handle a thrashing, but ZC's can't.

Yeah, one with a B16 would be awesome, but as a previous poster said, there are stuff-all unraped ones, and even the roughies go for lots, like $4000+

Crx's are ok, nothing special. They go well tho, only honda grive is the rear suspension bushings, $400 a corner retail, and they go every 100 thousand.

I had a Da6, was cool, but just not that cool really. Ive owned 3 hondas and theres one in my driveway thats been there for 2 years, late model accord, and i just cant stand working on the things, so poorly design and thought out.

Hondas are cheap cars for the masses, toyota have always been up in practicality, just sell your peice and buy an ae82, youll thank yourself for it ben!

? I got my DA6 rear arm bushes for $85 each, and put them in myself. Where do you get $400 from?

I don't know where you get your info, but I've personally worked on most 80's Hondas, and the majority of FWD Toyotas, and to me, they're very similar, they've just got the engine bays around the other way!

Poorly designed? What would you rather have, a B16A or a silvertop 20V? :roll:

Then again Zyros, you can't expect much from a Toyota forum, most of these guys have never driven a decent VTEC Honda, let alone owned one! I say get the CRX if you really want it, at the end of the day its' your choice. I'd personally take the Civic over the CRX as I said, purely because they're more practical.

I wouldn't worry too much about the durability of CRXs (either the first or second gen), there are a number of them doing gravel Hillclimbs and Rallysprints in our club and they are ultra-reliable.

I've raced my boss's one (an Si) on tarmac a few times. Interior space really is sod-all (when the drivers seat is right back there is only around 2" between the seatback and the rear seat cushion) and I found the handling extremely nervous compared to my Sentra. They have a very short wheelbase (around 100mm shorter than the equivalent Civic, from memory) and it is very easy to get it to swap ends.

Personally they aren't for me. I'd be looking for a Civic (more grown-up) or a Pulsar GTi. Or that Charade De Tomatso :lol:

Yeah, for good reasons i want to stay in the toyota area.. But then again i want too also get a different car so i get use to how each works you know?

CRX's in my opinion look good, but im just worried of lack and room and to be ricey.. if my sound system will make it rattle :lol:

I love the things, and the civics arnt bad either. My civic will take almost anything i throw at it

Hahah, yeah man, awesome wee cars. Mine isn't the GTti, just the 1.3 4cyl carb, but she still moves eh! One of the best factory-handling cars I've ever owned..

My brother has a si crx and they do go very well. Short wheelbase though, never felt comfortable pushing it around corners despite the 18" rims on it.

Whatever you do, don't put a cosworth style wing on it...

What you mean to say is that it never felt comfortable going round corners BECAUSE of the 18" rims on it. Too big for the car and probably too heavy.

Mine had the factory 14"s and handled like a bag of arsholes too. Might just be too softly sprung out of the factory.

I know I'm a bit late, but thought I'd add my opinion as I have owned a CRX and Toyota.

Now, I have to admit that the car was off the road quite a lot, but it was mainly repairing wear and tear as it was 15yrs old. The car does have issues with rust especially on the rear arches.

However! This is the funnest car I've driven. Mine was lowered, and it handled like it was on rails. And as some people have said, once you've had vtec you don't ever want to go back! I had the 1.6 B16A1 (the D16 was non-vtec). It's pretty rapid too. I would describe it as being a go-kart for the road.

I'm not sure why it has got a bad rep for accidents. You would be surprised how strong this little car is.

As people have said. Take it for a test drive and have some vtec fun once it's warmed up. Personally I think they look gorgeous.

only my 2c but if you want 4 people you should look for something other than a crx - maybe a Prelude?
