Well i had a big cry yesterday :(

Postby Beccyboo » Thu May 25, 2006 10:47 am

Yesterday arvo i went to get 4 new tyres on my car!
I took it to a place called Tyres 2 Go as they had given me a really good price.
I asked specifically if there machine would in anyway damage my wheels, and if so i would not get them done! They assured me it would be fine (as they had done painted wheels before and not a problem), and there machine was the best (some expensive Itallian one). He even took me inside to show me the machine etc!

Anyway they said it was going to be 45mins so i went away and came back. When i got back that had only put 2 wheels back on my car. I looked at one wheel and realised that they had scrated, dented and damaged around rim. I nearly died. I then looked at the other one and the same thing I then checked the rest and yup all the same! I said to the guy about it, which he just looked, then went back to balanacing the other 2. Thats it i rang good old Dad. He was down in a flash.

By this stage i was nearly beside myself, and Dad hit them up about it. One guy went totally mental and they other guy was really good about it. Dad said we were not going to pay for the tyres untill they did something about the rims, they then took my keys and said that if i don't pay, my car stays there!! - THERE WAS NO WAY THAT WAS HAPPENING!!!. Anyway more words were said and we were getting nowhere. The 2 guys (who were joint partners in the business) started talking in another language (South African i think). Dad decided to call Consumers Insitute, they gave him another number who took his details and said to call the police!!

Anyway to cut a long story short, i had to pay the $ for the wheels (they refused to take credit card, eftpos of cheque "in this case" - so i had to borrow cash off good old Dad. I got photos of everything and told them this was going to the small claims court - the guy just laughed at me.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR as you can probably tell i an't a happy girl

Anyone had any problems like this before????

Sorry to hear about that Bex, that sucks it to the max

I cant believe how irresponsible that is of a fairly reputable company, surely they have to take the blame for it and repair your wheels?

Sounds like you're taking it through the right channels though, good luck with it! I hope they get done

Hope you can get it all sorted out. :) That really sucks. :(

Last year i got a puncture fixed at a Challenge petrol station (Not going to menion that it was the one in Caversham, Dunedin) and they ended up scratching my rim etc. I suppose looking after the wheel wasn't included in the $20 repair cost.

Thanks guys :)
Lets hope it all works out for the best. I have got before and after pics, also pics of my car at there shop.
I have also got a quote to get them all fixed up to how they were before hand (they had only been re-done about a couple of months ago).
Dad and I are going to go to them with the quote and give them a chance to settle it out of court, if not its all on! And if no joy at court Fair Go it is!!!

Thing is (which some wont know) is that bexes rims are painted in some wacky prizmatech colour - in other words, they're all glittery and sparkly and they need to get redone all professionally like.

Should have gone to tonys....

Yep, took the car back to them, showed them the wheels & they said "Oh... sorry, we'll get that fixed. If you want the otehr two done too, let us know so we can get them done for the same price."
Only had to pay for the other two wheels.
Thanks Tony's.

Small claims should absolutely walk all over these clowns. Sit tight & have a quiet chuckle when the tyre shop gets owned.

Holy crap! one rim a mistake two rims bad luck? 4 rims INCOMPETENT :!:
Can't believe they did all 4 like that go to small claims with all your evidence and i bet they dont even show up which means you win but sadly doesnt always mean they will pay up.

Good luck

looks like they need to learn to aim the bead breaker a bit better.

on a good day, they won't turn up to Small Claims Court.
on a bad day they will, beware most former S.African business owners are never wrong, even with photographic evidence.

I used to go to Marmites on moorhouse next to Farnleys Jet skis.
Don there is a real good guy. He always changed my tyres and wheels for the cheap.

I know someone who was on the same course on changing tyres as the tyres 2 go guys, and apparently they were fkn useless, and judging by the pics above, its true.

Thanks guys!!

Well i had a good look last night and i don't actually have just plan pics of the wheels :( I have a couple of my car from the show (the wheels had been done just a week before hand) but none of just the wheels!
These guys did know the wheels were mint when they went in there though as i had made such a big deal about not getting them marked as there were in mint condition!

They are on the corner of Opawa Road and Brogham Street, - yea not far crom the ice skating rink.
I went to Tonys the first time to get my tyres back on the rims and they were great. I wish i had gone back to them now :(

But yea will keep the updates coming anyway :)

Right, so what you do, is go to a brand name tyre shop and get an independant opinion on what caused the damage.

When I took mine back into Tony's they said "Oh shit, that looks like our machine's fault, best we set it right"
They knew what the damage was caused by.

Sure, they can argue that it was curbing that caused it, however curbing does a little more than just scrape the paint off 'cleanly' it also 'cleanly' turns that section of your rim into a serrated edge, marks the tyre up too (sometimes).
