Any Mazda gurus out there on Toyspeed??

does anyone know for certain, the procedure for fitting a pre-faclift gearbox behind a facelift B6T in an '88 BFMR????

the later engine has the alloy sump and a 1mm backing plate, the early version has a steel sump and a 3mm backing plate.

before we start stripping parts unnecessarily, will we get away with swapping sump, starter, and backing plate to get it to bolt up?? will we need the flywheel as well?

i do know that the box will probably fly to bits , once fitted, but that was one of the many ways they created to create demand for their spare parts inventory.

yes, i have been to a darker side, but there was no specific info on the swapping, but several pages of obituaries for dead boxes and several pages of why they fly to bits.

it will fit. all acc will fit. you MAY have to gring a little of the alloy sump away from around the starter/center diff area but really shouldn't have to because its already a 4wd box in there. i just had to grinf it away when i fitted a fwd facelift motor to a bfmr.

i've done a few so ask away... 8)

btw: if you choose to use the steel sump then flick me a pm and i'll be keen on the leftover alloy one

it's the brace on the alloy sump that is causing the problem, and if it is removed(i.e. ground back) it will reduce the number of bolts holding the gearbox on thus making it even weaker.

drftnmaz, flick me a PM with your number and i'll call you. there is nearly a whole parts car (pre-facelift) that will need to be moved on, minus box and sump.
