How much can you fill your tank?

$95 fill of 91 Octane, ~400km tank. Depends how much sitting in traffic I do.

I put at least 50km/weekday on the thing. Thus, no more than 8 working days on a tank. So instead of putting $100 or so away for a fortnight, I have to budget a minimum of $130 or so. And that assumes I don't get called in after hours, and don't do anything on the weekends...

Teh Suck!

(I'm toying with buying a Starlet or something for using to and from work...)

Dads diesel i can get to auckland from whangarei in and have the needle still showing full.

The rolla... cost 70 bucks to fill today... i put in exactly 40litres, im hoping to get at least 300km from that. Will report in a weeks time.

Around $100 of 95 (60litres) to fill the Vectra from emptyish, can get close to 800kms out of a tank on the open road, 40mpg 8)

haha yep its good yeh. I got a vectra.

Im going to tauranga next friday so i will put it to the test and see what kms i get

Man, you guys all need to get smaller cars!

I put $20 (about 11 and a half litres) in the Charade from empty, it gives me just over half a tank (indicated), to which I get 110km of thrashing, or around 140km of light driving. I estimate it to cost around $45 to fill, my turbo Cefiro cost me $120 to fill, so its' a big difference! The only downside is that it has to work pretty hard to cruise at 100-110km/h.

And the best part? I only paid $300 for it! Its' tempting just to keep it and save up for a house.. but I miss boost! :(

I get about 10km/L if constant thrashing...just normal about 13km/l...

It runs fine. I can't justify spending more on Gas for a few extra Octane when its basically a to-and-from-work bus at the moment anyway...

Mine pinks like crazy on 91, if you cant afford the gas why not buy a 3s-fe powered dina?

Mine doesnt ping at all. Maybe yours would need to be retuned?

I bought my Caldy 2 years ago...

In that time I've gone from a double-income-no-kids situation to a single-income-one-kid situation and fuel prices have skyrocketed. A 3SFE Powered Caldina would only be fractionally more fuel efficient, and would not have the other trimmings that are only available in the 3SGE version.

Modern ECUs are able to dynamically adjust timing to counter for lower octane levels; The only impact would be a perceived loss in power output. It does not harm the engine unless you reallllly drop the octane levels down. This is my understanding and extensive Googling seems to agree, though much of the information I found refers to the 3SGTE, typical....

I cant recall exactly because I never fill it up
but $30 get me just over half in my GTZ and that is only 16.49 litres of 98

I dont understand people running cars on 91 ( unless it was MADE to run on it, which most imports arent...)

Massive tip here people, dont drive around with more gas than you need...
Its very stupid when you think about it. So say you have a 50 litre tank and your constantly carrying an EXTRA 25 litres for no reason at all....
Its like having a bag of cement in your boot!!

So you power to weight is reduced...and it takes longer for you to stop and more petrol for you to take off? Look petrol is not Coke, it wont lose it uh "fizz"

And many cars are quite happy on 91. As BJ says, its not pinking so he may as well be running on 91. Not gonna be hurting it

I would suggest filling upto half, Im not sure what this costs in most cars... since my tank is very small. Of course when driving OUT of town filling up is not a stupid idea.

I remember the days when $10 would get me to work and back 6 days a week in an old 81 lancer...magic!

So hangon a minute.

My 60L Tank.. to only have it filled half way will save me 30L.. or approx 30kg Max...

This is equivalent to, what, less than half a person?

Id rather stop for gas less often than fuss over 30kg...

My '03 Corolla (1.8 ) takes 43 litres when fuel light comes on, so thats $73.48 of 91 @ $1.709 per liter and will travel 550 km on that. My driving consists of stop start motorway from Albany to the city and out for appointments each day, then crawling home again.

On a trip it gets a little better; 44 litres did Auckland to Bay of Islands, some runing around and back (620 kms).

I take it your remark about the coke and "fizz" was aimed at my remarks??

Firstly it was an analogy so a little lateral thinking was required, I’m not going to do all your thinking for you.

Secondly I have personally found it more economical to run the Corona this way & yes it is NZ built and assembled and runs on 91, running it with the tank below half chews through the gas in no time at all, running from full to half has proven to be more economical for me.

Sure it may not work for others, but it works for me.

And I'm with BlackJak, I cant be arsed worrying about stopping for petrol every five minutes because I am getting near empty, I like to know that if I need my car its there and the first thing I don’t have to do is stop, waste time and fill up with gas

And so far she's back to below quarter and I've only gotten 485k's out of it...
