Slivertop driveshaft

Postby Punter » Mon May 29, 2006 11:37 am

Okay this should be an easy one, but a search turned up nothing.

I've just install a new motor/clutch in my levin, At the same time I changed the springs and shocks. When I put it back together I installed the motor/box first and Then the hubs with every thing attached to them.
(Is that the normal way, this is the first FWD I've really worked on)

Now when trying to install the drivers side driveshaft I can't bolt up the axel extension bit to the block. There is a stud sticking out which stops it rotating into place. (I have the shaft in the gearbox and attached to the hub.)

The only way I can see to fit it now is to drop the engine/box out again and take the gearbox off then bolt it all back together.

I just wanted to check that this is the only way as I don't want to do another days work for no reason.

Cheers.

You can actually pull the shaft out of support bracket, there is a large circlip holding the bearing inside the support, remove that and pull the shaft with bearing out, bolt on the support bracket and slide the shaft back in, refit circlip back in. Or you can try to persuade it in without removing anything (it works, as I've done it before)....

Ah, that sounds promising, i'll try taking it apart. I was just a bit scared to "Persuade" it too much.

Cheers

I hate this bolt....

I couldnt get the bloody braket bearing thing off, even when i was looking at it in front of me (on stand..)

If you pull the shaft out from the geab box just the tinyiest bit, you can JUST get it on.

(this is if you can't take it to bits)

Yea I just took it to peices. There was only 2 bolts holding the two bits of the bracket together, no need to touch the bearing. Was bloody easy actually, just couldn't see anything when it was in the car.

Cheers for all the help guys :D
