Postby AISM » Thu May 25, 2006 8:26 pm

Unfortunately due to a lack of bookings for swapper sites the Nextbase Auckland Import Swapmeet on Sunday 18th of June as had to be cancelled.
There will be no postponement date and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
Those who have payed for a site will be re-funded in full.

Any chance of a mod temporarily stickying this for a couple of weeks?

I dissagree.
The first page of General would be consistant of nothing but Sticky threads if every panzy wanted to have a thread stickied advertising his or her commercialised riceboy event...

That it would be...or...why not just have a Events section and chuck everything in there (just thinking out loud here)

To get a 'sticky' off the bat it'd need buy-in from someone willing to coordinate a 'stand' and usually would also involve asking us.

To date Admins have to my knowledge not had such a request..

If TS are going to have an 'official' presence then a Sticky would definately be warranted, have the Auckland Mods been approached yet?

O.k
Sorry to start an arguement, that was not my intention, any mods reading this please take this as an invite.

Toyspeed are welcome to have a club stand, it's not somthing you'll be charged for.

However, if you want to organise something you will have to organise it within yourselves, I'm happy to give you the space but you will need to contact soon as the event is as stated above, is only a fortnight away now.

Individuals can also display their cars if the club does not want an offical presence.

I cant afford the time to chase it up, this is merely an oppurtunity you can take up if you chose to.

Come on man I'm just trying to get an event together that everyone can enjoy, and as far as commercialisation goes I could not do it with out the small amount I have had to raise.
There are only 9 spaces allocated for trade stands, and without them individual swapper sites would be more expensive. The venue didn't come free. And as far as "rice boy" goes, you obviously have never been to a swapmeet before, they are about as far from being "rice boy" as you can get.

I'm not taking a dig at you personally dude...

But go for it, have the event and prove me wrong. There's rarely ever any 'import events' that aren't based on a bunch of rice-mobiles with big chromes and sparkly paint jobs...

Does this not sound like a stolen/dodgy goods swap meet to anyone else?

Apart from buying from legitimate buisnesses participating, I'd be wary of buying anything there.

Um, swap meets are nothing new though, the V8 fraternity have been doing them for years. Really, what seperates it from buying something out of the paper?

True, but i'm not aware of any 'spiraling out of control' vintage/classic car theft. Where in the import scene, it almost seems to be part of the scene. i.e catch up with mates, find out who had a car stolen this week, hear from people who bought cheap parts....
