Petrol Prices

Postby NooDleS » Wed May 31, 2006 11:29 am

Hey all,

just a quick question, how much do you generally pay for petrol? I'd like to know as i'm coming out soon enough.

I'm currently paying...
95 Octane: £0.98/ltr = $2.906
97 Octane: £1.00/ltr = $2.97
100 Octane: £1.12/ltr = $3.33

Per Gallon
95 Octane: £3.92 = $11.64
97 Octane: £4.00 = $11.88
100 Octane: £4.48 = $13.31

On a 40ltr tank. Normally fill 3 tanks a month with 95 and once with 97. I only fill up on 100 when i find it, normally travelling into England.

Full Tank 95 Octane: £39.20 = $116
Full Tank 97 Octane: £40.00 = $119
Full Tank 100 Octane: £44.8 = $133

Could somebody compare it for me? Is there much of a difference between islands? What brands are most common?

Dude, you'll be laughing over here... 98 is only $1.819 a litre.

There are variances between parts of NZ but you'll still be cracking up after you've converted your money to NZD and become a millionaire

In the South Island there's really only BP Ultimate 98(imported from Australia)
But in the North there's more choice.

With the conversion you'll be paying less over here, lucky guy. :)

I think 91 Octane is 1.709? p/ltr

Where you heading? I just emigrated here on Monday. Everyone moans about the petrol prices but it's nothing compared to the UK.

However, from what I have heard petrol prices fluxuate a lot. In the UK is a very gradual rise. Anyone care to clarify?

Cheers,

You probably earn more over there than we do. That and the prices of other things would be cheaper too
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

When my aunty went over to the UK (which was a few years back admittedly), the pound bought pretty much what a dollar did ie can of coke was £1...so the cost of living wasnt too much different.

Well... they would have to go down in order to fluctuate

It's a quiet time for fuel companies/service stations so hopefully things will stay as is for a while.. but expect evilness in spring, especially if our dollar keeps moving in the opposite direction to oil prices.

yeah when you go over there, say a coke is $1 here, its 1 pound there (obviously coke isnt anymore, just an example). But when you convert it, its like $2.5 for a coke.
If your earning the pound its fine, Its just when your only going over for a holiday and your using your NZ savings it bites you.
Earning pounds and spending pounds is fine, earning dollars and spending pounds is shit. Earning pounds and spending dollars and your rolling in it.

That was my experience of it anyway, was a while ago.

8O ewwww! 91 octane, seriously? It sounds a bit 'French' to me? All in all, prices seem pretty damn good :D

s0cks!!!: At present it looks like i'll be moving to either Timaru or Christchurh to study at one of the polytechnics. If I don't get enough cash together before February, i'll be coming over on a working holiday visa in search of a permanent job to secure PR.

yeah thats the one thing you will realise about this country, when you have lived here for a while,

how its still stuck in the 1960's

8O 8O 8O 8)

as for petrol prices,

when one put it up x amount of cents, they all do, and if one doesnt the next day it will have dropped back down
Nothing to see here ...

Make sure you go out an have a good final blast on the motorway before you come over here. If you're moving to the south island you'll soon be missing a decent stretch of tarmac...

Do you not leave the city or something? South Island Rds are awesome. If you want straight bits of road with no bastard around go to Geraldine via Darfield. If you want twistys theres countless stretches.

There are some roads in North Canterbury that have straights 20 or 30km long! We used to do countless "max speed" trails in all sorts of cars out there.

Tram Road, South Eyre Rd, countless others......

Ahh memories... :)
