110MPH for 100miles without much of a care before hitting traffic (usually some bloody lorry falling over!!!) You can't beat that! Although it gives you much less of an excuse not to travel places :( The M4 must be a good 400miles and there's only ever traffic if the bridge in closed or if its rush hour!

It was only 6months ago a policeman made the national news after getting band for driving 136MPH in his Vectra.....he was a Traffic Policeman!!! hehe

Yeah thats what I'm talking about - I really miss the run I used to do from Watford up the M1 to Huddersfield ~ 200 miles and plenty of bits where you can go for it. The old M62 east from Manchester was fun too..... *sigh*

Living in Blackwood, 5miles from Caerphilly. Although you probably know that.

Google Earth this post code: NP12 3NG. Left hand side, as you go up the street, i'm the first house before the bungalow :)

Precise enough? :D

Yeah, but the motorway's in England are now plastered with speed cameras, speed vans, and unmarked traffic cops.

Still if it's 4 in the morning you can have fun. I think I reached 142mph before I wimped out. But remeber, that's not big, nor clever!

Would you say that if we were talking about the autobahn?

I've learnt where all the cameras are on the M4 and the major A roads i take now. Its the damn vans driving 68MPH in a 70 that seriously peeve you off. They hold up traffic. But yes, like you say, all across the UK, especially when you get into Scotland through the Borders. Although Gwent county (where i live) is supposed to pull in more money and dish out more speeding fines than any other county in the UK, I can understand that. It's now illegal to 'warn/inform' other motorists of a speed camera...go figure.

I'm trying to find a news article on a speed camera put up in a small road in Oakdale with about 30 terraced houses alongside it. The residents chopped it down the day after it was errected. The council re-fitted it blaming youths. Two days later. They chopped it down smashed it up and left a note telling them where to shove it. The council cleared the mess and removed the markings. That was 2years ago. They put it up again last month, this time however, it was cut down carried away, set fire to and sent in little pieces to the local council offices.

Oh ok - It was definately getting more that way when I left (3 years ago). Some counties were worse than others though - Northamptonshire was the worst - Got caught twice in different places by sneaky hidden vans with detectors....

Caerphilly - thats nearish to Cardiff isn't it? I've been past there I think, but never actually went there.

http://archive.thisisgwent.co.uk/2004/4/7/61860.html that was part of what happend 2 years back.

I'm trying to find the rest. There's a few other papers it might be in, The Campaign, Western Mail & Echo (not that you'd know them).

I'm about 20miles north of cardiff and about 18 north from newport. In the middle area.

If you want somewhere to speed, the canal roads between tekapo and twizel are pretty good. no police on them (something about them possibly not being allowed to patrol them?) and its pretty much all stright, but with the odd small bend. just be careful not to fall off either side... huge drop on one side, canal on the other. no fences/rails.

180ks in a completely packed AE92 levin... bit scary, being squashed in the back seat of that car with it going that fast... not even being able to move.

Of course, i wouldnt know this... doing that is just plain old silly.

KWS - Thats a fair way for some of us to go for a hoon. That was what was great about the UK - Theres motorway (2-3 lane) almost everywhere (I hear even Norwich is getting dual-carrageway down the A11!!) and you don't have to risk your neck worrying about who might trundle out in front of you in a slow vehicle/bicycle/skateboard/pram...

Yeah, i know. It is a wee way out, but if youre ever in Tekapo, it not far from there, and its a hell of a cool road. Just as i said, take care and stay on the road... its going to get very messy if you fall off either side.
