R154 thrust washer - best solution?

Hi guys, im looking for someone that really knows the R154 gearbox that can advise/sell me the solution for the r154's weak thrust washer.

Any info's appreciated - Cheers

nope - he wont be talking about that... thats like a diamond compared to the thrust washer inside the R154.. when doing violent changes it apparently ends up slamming into other bits shattering it.

heard the best thing is to get one from toyota and have a better one made from a more durable metal (cant rememebr which metal that was tho :P )

We used to run them in the Levin behind the 2JZGTE race car.

Never had problems with that particular part though.

However they were not the most reliable box either.

We now use a hollenger, ( bit expensive for the average person, but it's worth it.)

Could you use a Torrington Style, Needle roller Thrust bearing instead of a washer??? Fitted heaps of them in other applications instead of thrust washers including gearboxs, rocket assemblies etc, not a always cheap option & don't know how effective it'd be either in your application.

Else you could try getting one remanufactured in a different material or with a different heat treatment. Perhaps 2767 high tensile/high toughness steel or similar & then getting it hardened & tempered.

We had shift lever and fork problems and sorts.

They ended up getting custom made solid brass shift forks made for inside the box's. (they had 3 box's in total, 1 in car, 1 spare, and one was always under repair as parts were so hard to get for them.)
