Question for those who pay for services

Postby Ae92typeX » Fri Jun 09, 2006 9:13 am

Out of interest, for those of you who dont do your own services, what do you pay...be it a basic oil change, or a more full, all fluids etc service.

Ive been operating from home for ages and am a little out of touch with charge rates, but have got a little busier now, so am just interested in average service costs.

Cheers

I don't pay for my service, but I know how much we get charged at work, for basic oil/filter change $120.

I have just taken my car into a reputable mechanic in christchurch with serious issues that i couldnt figure out, they have charged out at $56 an hour. And so far have done 6 hours work on the car. This is for testing various issues, and replacing various parts to get the car running spot on again. Plugs leads, battery terminals, ignitor, check fuel system etc.

I get a standard oil change at 5000kms for ~$60.

oil filter and general check over fluids for ~$120

It's not that I couldn't do it myself, it's that I don't care to do it myself, I am pretty much an office worker, who doesnt like to get hands dirty(I'm changing, slowly though).

lol, I sure was out of touch with prices.
cheers for the imputs.
I can understand the office thing & if $$ isnt an issue why not pay someone. Myself, I get a little tired of the office work by the weekend and want to get back into the dirty world of cars etc

like I said, I'm changing... I'm about to make some fairly major changes to my car, and none of the shops in Dunedin were keen to give me a hand(yeah, I want to do it myself with some hand holding), so I have paid a guy for access to part of his workshop/hoist/tools etc, and managed to coax a bunch of guys I know with various talents(welding, tuning, panel beating, general mechanics, and the odd geek) to give me a hand... it's going to take shape, but slowly...

Last one I paid for (and only because I was in a hurry) was $64 for oil/filter + fluid check, took about 10 minutes. Normally DIY though.

Well said :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
