Camshaft manufactured error??

Hi there guys, was checking all toda gear before sending it to the workshop. and I came across something odd in the intake camshaft

A little "cut" across something - which i am not sure of the name
Its circled in red in the picture.

Is that a manufacturing error, or is that on all blacktop camshaft???

That could be the mark you set the timing with.

No way looks like a manufacturing error

Often you will find a tag cast into the camshaft in a similar area - this is so by looking in the oil filler hole you can tell if #1 piston is top dead centre on compression stroke.
The cut in you camshaft could be there for the same reason.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
