Tein Suspension VS TRD suspension

Hi guys. I am thinking about changing my TRD coilovers to Tein. The reasons are:
1: TRD too stiff for NZ road (the one I am using is actually for circuit)
2: its getting old, and i think is starting 'degrade'

anyway, my question is. How good is tein. I done a search, and revhead says they are as good. But I asked some of my mates, they said they don't last as long - after a while it looses the damper and start to become very bouncy.

Is it true that you get what you pay for? becoz the Teins are 1/3 cheaper than the TRD ones. Anyone here had tein long enough to tell me?
The one I am getting is Tein Super Street. Which is not as stiff, and good for road condition. But what is setting me back is, if they are not going to last as long, I might as well change to new TRD ones, because my current one did last quite a while, the only reason i am not reconditioning it is because the surface casing of the front strut is loosing the blue coating, and I fear it will rust sooner or later.

Also, anyone know if Tein are reconditionable???
BTW, is for an AE111 superstrut

get the trd ones recond? and adjust the valving to suit your street use?

I've got TEIN coilovers in my levin, they're also very hard so you wont gain any ride cumfort over the TRD's.
I've had the car for just over 3 years and the shock are still as good as when i got them, so they dont wear out quickly.
Yes TEIN are reconditionable in NZ. Autolign suspension does them.

like i said before, the front strut are losing the blue coating, and i fear it will rust or significantly affect the performance in a later stage.

ROBODISCO: Cheers for that info. Yea, i suspect it will be about the same, but the reason i want fully adjustable is because i want to be able to do the heights and damper rate....and also i think the EDFC is a great gadget to have LOL.
If no one else will second these opinions, then I probably will go for Tein, as they are cheaper than TRD.

BTW, i finally decided to get a loan from bank, and do up my car all together once and for all...for those who don't remember, i have the TODA engine kit sitting around waiting to be fitted. but can't wait till end of year when i go back to work during uni holiday, so LOAN it is. I am excited at seeing how much I will gain from the kit. Will keep posting for progress. Work should start early july.

its only a coating... clean prime an paint, or while getting re-con get the cases powdercoated really isnt a big deal :p

hey acesniper. thanks for that, I never thought about it...I will check with autolign on the condition of my current struts, if they are still in good nick, then better to just recon it. Cheers! :P

Also if you get Teins you will need to get a cert. If you stick with TRD you will not need to get a cert. As TRD comes within the defintion of OE.

the cert is not an issue, as I currently have one already, and also once I done my engine, i will need a new cert anyway. so that really isn't a problem for me

you sure with that, my mate got TRD adjustables for his ae111 and had to get a cert.

I had teins in my last car, still have them lying. Very stiff for the road, my mate had the TRD ones on his ae111 they were even stiffer.

Sorry not wanting to let go of them yet, wana try them out on the circuit first and try the ones I have in the car now and see if there gona be a difference.

TRD are not required to have a cert.

they are by the ltsas own definiton factory parts.

Whilst I'd like to agree with you on this sentiment Warwick, and I can certainly see why you should think that way, I don't believe that this can be taken for granted.
In fact I'd suggest that few testing stations, if any, would consider TRD suspension OE equipment.

You'll probably find that anything that's adjustable even if it's TRD will need to be certified.
