Sunday 2nd July, Levin event! Been and gone, now with photos

Postby Leon » Tue Jun 13, 2006 2:39 pm

We're doing a double whammy event on July 2nd (was June 25th, but rained off)

A short, sweet 4 test motorkhana in the morning, and an autocross in the afternoon.

$20 (total) for either or both.

Helmet and overalls required in the afternoon.

Usual story, heavy rain = rained off.

Paddock is pretty decent, but if you've got a very low car with plastic bits, probably pay to leave it at home.

Also i'd like topoint out there is an event at the Kapiti tip this Sunday, but its alot harder on cars so your daily driver is probably not appropriate to use at this event (Gravel/mud/rocks/2m deep puddles)

Yes if you put them back onto road tires, and leave the chunky tires at home.

Sunday events always at that paddock sorry. Last Sunday of every month of the rest of the year apart from August (clash rally Wairarapa) and December.

For spectating purposes, sleep in, and go up there for around 11am.

If you turn up at half nine, you're going to be standing around for an hour watching people fill in bits of paper and have their cars inspected.

Take a camera.

I'll try and get my ass into gear for this one and come up to help with timing/recording stuff again.

I would absolutely recommend this day to anyone, I did one a while ago and it was an absolute blast!

Well, we've kind of sidetracked into talking about two different events in the one thread ... so to reply to both possible questions Blair,

The Kapiti event this weekend I might or might not go up at all, as the venue is pretty hard on the machinery (it is generally called "the car killer"). So I might go for a look if the weather is nice, or I might go to the Hutt and look at some offroad RC car racing instead. I need a car with a sump guard, or more ground clearance :)

The Levin event at the end of the month, being the organiser, I have to head up there early so usually try to be there shortly after nine, and by half nine. But if you were able to help out with stopwatch work and stuff, then pretty much aim for ten am at the earliest, or maybe even half ten. Pretty much there is nothing to do until then, unless you wanted to learn about scrutineering.

With all these events, it takes a while to get though all the documentation, and vehicle scrutineering. So we and up being lucky if we get driver briefing by half ten.

cheers for that Leon & apologies to all others for the hi-jack

I am pretty sure I have watched the Kapti one about 4 or 5 years ago & do recall it being not all too friendly on various suspension parts etc, rembering where it actually is, well thats a different story  might flick Stace an email on that front

The Levin event - I am keen to help out in any way shape or form & yeah the scrutineering is something that has interested me, not only from a helping etc but also on the knowledge side once I get things sorted with my cars & become active at that level & if things can get done to the same high level but a little quicker at events then its more play time for all & removes a bit of stress.

If you have info etc thatn you can email then feel free to fire it to me at work

Easiest venue ever to find. Go North SH1, past Pram. Hang a left at the Southwards Car Museum sign. Cross railway lines, hang a left into landfill road (the tip). Tell the dude at the gate you're there for the autocross so you don't have to pay. Taaa daaaa!

Helping at Scrutineering at Levin = you turn up, I introduce you to the Scrutineer on the day, you follow him around and he allocates you random tasks.

Listen you girl's blouses. Our track is as smooth as a baby's bum. We expend many many man hours and $$$'s filling & rolling it to get it that way.
Car killer indeed! Get a real car!
