All of those tyres mentioned are noisy in my opinion, I have driven on them all (im a tyre fitter), if u want a good quiet tyre try a Euro made tyre, i would recommend a tyre called Barum, good price, nice and quiet and excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions, we are getting customers getting around 50,000 kms out of theym, they are made by Continental which make the worlds best tyres, and they make the OE tyres for BMW, Mercedes Benz and a majority of European Vehicles.

Also if its for a GTT Caldina it should be on a 205/55R16 tyre, unless its very very low and then a 205/50R16 would be allright

as for tyres , u cant go wrong with the eagle f1 gsd3's as they have been rated the top tyre by 5 independant european magazines , the top tyre 2005 by tyrerack and is still winning awards to this very day !

Dont even consider the federals , u will be diappointed

I dont know how wide the rims are.... They are Eurosport something or others....
Ill go have a look at them. They arent anything special I dont think. They are a bit ruffled around the edges, thats how they came.

I have 225 tyres on my 16" rims.. I guess it all depends on how wide your rims are.

Don't bother with Federals. You have a turbocharged performance car that needs to be run on 98. Economy really shouldn't be much of a concern for a car like that - spend the extra money on tyres because you're going to have to live with it for at least the next 30,000km.

I have just replce the direzza tyres on my caldina GT4 (the newer model of the GT-T) with the goodyear eagle F1 GSD-3's. I also went from 17 to 18" wheels but still I will say that the difference in the car is amazing the handling and grip is so much better, the wet traction is better, the braking response is better (that one was a big surprise) and they are definatly quieter.

Also the direzza's produced more understeer and when it did breakaway (at either end) they were quite sudden and juddery and not that keen to get grip back again. The goodyears on the other hand have a nice progressive breakaway on the limit and a smooth from and back to grip (if that makes sense).

I was acctually quite shocked at teh difference between the two as I believed that the direzza's were quite a good tyre, but seriously the goodyears are in a different league and I wouldn't use anything else now (the dunlops came on the car when we got it.)

Also I have driven the goodyears in my last car (110kw FF) in the frost and snow and they were great, heaps of grip.

I vote for Eagle F1's!!

I owe these tyres my life, they saved me from a nasty rear end impact about 3 weeks ago... The grip in the wet (and the dry!) is amazing...
I recommend them to anyone, I even forced my g/f to put them on her car, cos I have faith in them.

Road noise is generally very good, however due to the tread pattern they tend to pick up stones if you go somewhere particularly gravel covered.

are those the factory ones that's on the new golf gti? if so I believe those are $500 something each. friend was shocked by how much the tyres cost after she bought a new car

The new GTi comes on Continental Sportcontact2, the worlds best tyre! you get what u pay for there! Continental make Barum tyres

Hey your in invercargill right.

Make sure you shop around for prices and try the Beurepairs down by the showgrounds (just down the road from repco) as I have got some good prices from them in the past. Always talk to the manager and not the boy and tell them you are shopping around when looking for prices. usually someone will give you a stupid price just to get the sale.

Thanks - HRT (guy from this forum) is hooking me up. Im going to dunedin in 2 weeks and he is doing them then. He is giving me a pretty good price too.

I emailed all the places in invercargill a little while ago, and they gave me prices which were average. HRT beat them all by $30 a tyre or so.

I think I am going with the Eagle F1's, but I want to wait and see what B_giB has to say about pricing for the Continental ones. If everyone is happy that F1's are great tyres, then I cant really go wrong with them. But if he says he knows them all an Continential are better and quieter than the F1's, then I will be keen to see what the pricing is like.

I would actually have to say i prefered Bridgestone potenza grid 3's to the gsd-3's i had back when i had my silvia. Not only were the potenza's quieter but they gripped soooo much better in the wet and dry than the gsd-3's. But with 4wd the gtt should be ok with gsd-3's, but you can usually get potenza's for cheaper than gsd-3's. My two cents worth, but yeah i think grid3's pwn gsd-3's.
