Good evening all.
I do appologise if this is rather technical in nature – but its rather hard obtaining the info I need, and it often only comes from someone who has had experience with the specific equipment. I hope someone here can help me!
Now – the problem:
I have an S-AFC (older 5 dial type) and want to install it in a vehicle that’s not listed in the manual, namely a Diahatsu Charade GTTI (1988, CB80 1L 3cyl engine).
Now, there seem to be two independent settings on the back of the SAFC. The “Car select” and the dip switches. Is anyone aware of what the individual settings on either of these do?
Ie, if you look down the manual list of “Car select” values, you note all Toyotas are either 0,1, 2 or 3 (car select). Im taking a stab in the dark here and assuming that that refers to the air flow metering style of the vehicle (ie 1, 2 or 3 bar map sensor or air flow meter). From a quick glance it looks like this could be the logic:
0 = Air flow meter (this one is a guess – Im not too familiar with AFM equipped Toyotas as all Toyotas ive owned have been MAP).
1 = 2 bar MAP sensor
2 = 3 bar MAP sensor
3 = 1 bar MAP sensor
(however I stand to be corrected on the above)
Then there are the DIP switches…
There seem to be only 4 different options for the DIP switches for Toyotas.
Configuration 1 = 1UZFE
Configuration 2 = 7MGTE, 2JZGE, 2JZGTE, 1JZGTE, 1JZGE, 1GGE, 3SGTE, 3SGE,
Configuration 3 = 7MGTE
Configuration 4 = 3SGE, 4AGE, 3SFE, 4AFE, 4AGZE, 5AFE, 4EFTE, 4EFE, 2ETE, 2EE
Im not sure what all these engines have in common, or rather, how they differ in terms of how an SAFC would work – any ideas?
I note the only Daihatus listed are the Mira TR-XX (L502s / L512s) and MOVE (L602s). These all use position “8” for car selector (as do Suzuki) and a combination of dip switches the same as Toyota configuration 2 (up, down, down, down, down, up, down, up).
So – back to which settings are most likely to work with the Daihatsu CB80… I guess I need to decipher the differences are between “Car Select” 1 and “Car Select” 8, as well as working out why some engines use Dip switch configuration 2 and others use configuration 4 (I think its safe to assume 1 and 3 are specific to the 1UZFE and 7MGTE for some reason).
Anyhow – if anyone can help at all I would appreciate your time!
Many thanks
AL
