3SGTE into an AE86 ?

Postby beeker » Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:16 pm

I'm just throwing ideas around about an upgrade for my Targa car. Seen plenty of Ae86's with 3sge's, what about a 3sgte from a ST205 (found a nice one).

I already have a W57, and hilux rear end coming. What type of work and cost would be needed to get a 3sgte into the AE86 ?

hey

that would be yes i am doin this conversion at the moment, so far have got mounts sorted, and tranmission w55 using machined down 1s bell housing, goin to run a hybrid ht18 turbo garagedori styles. Have purchased custom inlet plenium and am goin to see dan marsh for exhaust manifold and down pipe. When you pice of goin 4agte and goin 3sgte they both end up very simlar and the 3sgte gives you a mssive tourqu advantage. Hopeing for around 220-250 kw when complete. Will post up some pics of progress shortly

As a representative for the flat of 4A and 3S, I ask you to please mind your language.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Do you have to mod the firewall ?
Is there any 3sgte to watch out for, ie not use ?

price would be similar, and talking about torque is all talk, however optimimum power rpm range of the 4age would be better.

Still no denying how farken fast that ae86 is, wholly smokes. And quiet!

only just saw your question, a month later...

Well you were talking about mainly 2nd and 3rd gear to us, the 4agte is going to rev higher, just the nature of its bore x stroke. The length of the revs at which the 4agte produces optimimum power will be spread over a few more rpm's, id suspect, than a 3sgte, so you can hold your gears longer without sacrificing lost split times.

With the 3sgte, youd possibly (again i suspect) be in need of changing gears more frequently, and comming out of a corner into another, slapping to 3rd quickly, then back to 2nd, is lost time.

torque is derived from the power and rpm at which it is produced, simply saying the 3s produces more torque is correct, however this doesnt suit the nature of your car's build.

Street driving, maybe.

Thats what me thinks

That will be loost putting a 3sgte in a ae85/86 car.

My dad has owned many GT4 celica's st185, now a st205 and they kick you in the balls hard, and they are 4wd.

Nothing beats the scream of a 4age though...

From my experience sitting in the silly seat on tarmac rallies, its mainly 3rd,4th and 5th gear work with 2nd for the intersections. The extra torque would mean you might not need to change down as much but a good spread rather than peak power at high revs is more what you will need.
See ya

Well... I guess you could call a Lead Tipped Arrow a WEAPON. I hear arrows are great in a straight line! :) ;)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
